Women's golf: a juggernaut? - Hulk01 - 10-01-2019

The prospects for this year’s women’s golf team centered on freshman Angelina Ye becoming an excellent number three.  This would move Aline Krauter down to a lethal number four and set up this team. the player’s current world rank in parenthesis:

Sr. Andrea Lee (1)
Sr. Albane Valenzuela (3)
Fr. Lei Ye (48)
So. Aline Krauter (93)
Fr. Brooke Seay (111)

Compare that lineup with Stanford’s 2017 NCAA semifinals team :
Albane Valenzuela, 5
Andrea Lee, 10
Shannon Aubert, 152
Casey Danielson, 166
Madeline Chou, 1770

The other current Stanford team members:
Sr. Ziyi Wang, 227
Sr. Mika Liu, 259
So. Calista Reyes, 778
Jr. Kelsey Zeng, 1974
Sr. Madeline Chou, 2581

Looking very good.  Reyes could make a move but isn’t likely to displace Seay.

When women's golf is mentioned I always think about Dr. Sally Krueger, who (as Sally Voss) played for Stanford in the late 70's and had as good a swing tempo and rhythm as anyone who has ever played golf. Sensational player who has won dozens of amateur tournaments . Her game was more than good enough to earn a living as a playing professional but she chose instead to be an anesthesiologist. Remarkable woman.

There will be a scrum over the course of the season for the #5 position. Lots of competition for it. But the top 4 seems solid UNLESS Lee and/or Valenzuela decide to go for Q School. Lee just missed making it to the Q School finals last year. She may try again.

Right in Oregon half way thru the final day we lead by 17 and 26 over the 2/3 teams

and we have the top 3 individual scorers. That is a lethal trio.
But Reyes is outplaying Seay in this first tournament.

I've been waiting to see Reyes make a move.
She's a better golfer than her WAGR ranking suggests.

Amazing that Stanford's #9 played on a team
that advanced to the NCAA match play finals.
And that Stanford's likely #7 and and #8
have played in two of them.

#5 spot at least is up for grabs. #4 could be as well if Krauter falls off. Will be fun to watch. This team is deep.

FYI, they play at home a week from Fri/Sat/Sun come out and watch!
