They looked a lot better there. Tuned in late. Did they say what’s up with Plummer?

I didn't hear any details.

Up 19-13 in the 3rd.

Same injury as last week with Plummer. All taped up then

RE: WVB tonight - martyup - 10-04-2019

Stanford takes the third set 25-19.  Looking good.  Fitzmorris with 12 kills.

4th set tied at 7

Kip with 15 kills!

RE: WVB tonight - martyup - 10-04-2019

Stanford wins the 4th to take the match 3-1.  Kipp, a true freshman, had her coming out match.  Fun to watch.

RE: WVB tonight - BobK - 10-04-2019

McClure my player of the game. 0 kills 4 errors the first set. 13 kills just 4 errors last three sets

Fitz 16 kills hit 500.

brobdingnagian win. Oregon healthy now is a very good team.

Nice to know that they can beat a good team without Plummer.

RE: WVB tonight - 76lsjumb - 10-04-2019

Imagine an alternate universe in which, over the past few weeks, McClure has been maintaining her primary role like last year, while Kendall Kipp has gotten a little playing time here and there but hasn't really been tested against top flight competition in crucial situations.

Then tonight happens, Plummer is out, and Kipp is thrown into the fire as a "go to" player.  Maybe everything goes as well as it did.  But, more likely not.

Perhaps Hambly knew what he was doing with his earlier McClure/Kipp lineups after all...

RE: WVB tonight - Canalejas - 10-04-2019

UW lost at USC tonight, in case anyone is keeping a very early eye on the conference standings.

RE: WVB tonight - 81alum - 10-05-2019

I'm a volleyball neophyte, but was very impressed with how our team turned it around after the first miserable set, and without Plummer.  The commentators (including a certain well known coach) said it was mostly about our serves keeping Oregon out of system.  Even I could see that compared with the two recent losses our serves were a lot harder to handle.

So...how hard is it to serve in this way?  Is this a little like free throws--sometimes you are "on" but if some players start to miss it can be contagious?  Our serves during the losses seemed to me to be higher and safer and more like free balls, as if we were scared to miss.

In this alternate universe do we win one two or three of the matches that we lost? For me, tonight showed the value that McClure brings when she’s part of the rotation. She was obviously very rusty in the first game but I agree with Bob that she was the player of the match.

Kip is obviously a phenom and deserves to be on the court. I’m sure coach knows his job much better than I do so I will trust that he’s made the right decisions. But it’s a shame McClure can’t be a bigger part of the game plan.

I thought they disapproved the hot hand theory for basketball by analyzing free-throw’s and whether the probability of making the next shot depended on whether you had made the previous shot. People have a perception that there is a hot hand but it doesn’t bear out in the statistics. I wonder if they’ve looked at the same thing in volleyball serving. Perhaps something to ask coach at the next chalk talk if there is one.
