Well, they didn't link to the complaint so I can't give her lawsuit a "merits" read, but boy does her attorney's explanation for the suit sound flimsy:

Quote:“We just think it’s unbelievable that a player with her talent and success would be released in a situation like that,” Siegel said. “We think there’s something going on here that we don’t know about and we’re gonna find out.”

Hoookay. It's not even clear to me (a) what her claimed damages are when she wasn't a scholarship player; and (b) who the comparator is when the coach only coaches the women's team.

Cue posters saying this is kind of lawsuit is what makes people hate lawyers.

ETA: Cue posters saying this is kind of nonsense is what makes people hate Cal alums.

I’m a Cal alum. Didn’t know that made me an object of hate. I’m also a lawyer. ETA:  Cue this:  Bite me. All in fun. Right?

Funny enough, me too, on both fronts. But this is a Stanford board after all - and as I'm sure you'll concede, many lawyers do things that bring dishonor to our profession. Recent national news events certainly suggest as much.

Lawyers deserve much of the criticism we get. No question. My only issue was “hate” combined with Cal alum. Obviously I expect derision, jibes at the school, football team etc. I just “bit” on the “hate alum” part. I guess I  was having a bad hair day.....    :)

For the record, I like lawyers.  Otherwise, I wouldn't work with 600 of them...  :D

A problem with citing the lesser number of cuts in men's soccer as a Title IX violation: This argument premises that Title IX applies on a sport-by-sport basis, and not to the Athletic Department as a whole, across all sports. If so, couldn't a male soccer player sue for a Title IX violation because there are fewer scholarships available for MSoc than WSoc?
