Niners: What a half! - cardcrimson - 10-20-2019

Janeane goes 3 of 10 for 10 yards. Ooof. No points against on the leagues worst teams. Wonder if Shanahan is capable of making adjustments at half?

Tough sledding weather wise. 9-0. Defense travels. Garrafalo played much better second half.

I live here and attended the game.  The weather was flat out miserable.  It had been raining all night and it didn't stop in the morning, during the game or afterward.  Running backs couldn't run, receivers couldn't catch.  Garoppolo threw for 151 yards, 12/21 (so he was 9/11 in the second half), Keenum only threw for half that, 77 yards. Levine Toilolo caught one pass for two yards and blocked well, to my untrained eye.

And the Niner defense pitched a shutout.  Thomas got called for an untimely roughing the passer flag that was beyond marginal, incidental contact really. Keenum playacted well.

Bosa's the real deal.  A sack, four TFL, led the team in tackles.  I was surprised the Redskins would run to his side at all.  Armstead and Ford had sacks as well.

It will be interesting to see if a team that starts 6-0, then ends up 6-7 once they play teams with a pulse, can recover and make the playoffs.

I too am curious whether New England will make the playoffs.

Niners host the Panthers this Sunday.  Will be interesting to see a bunch of our favorites on the field competing against one another.

49ers are favored by 5.5, which sounds about right; I think Cam Newton is expected to be back.

Kyle Allen is starting. The D will eat MaCaffrey for lunch.

Well NE is already 7-0, so...

Interestingly Football Outsiders' latest playoff report put NE at 99.98% to make the playoffs. The Niners are 3rd at 93%, just behind the Saints (presumably because the Niners have more competition for the division).

You're betting that the Niners will lose the next seven in a row?  Every single opponent has at least two losses, except the Packers and Saints who have one each.  Four of those games are at home.

I'll take that bet.  I think they'll win at least one of seven.  Name your stakes.

The NFL would be interested in knowing that their standings are incorrect.

That is, the Patriots and Niners are both undefeated, but only the Niners have had a bye week so far. So it's Pats 7-0, Niners 6-0.

Well, so far McCaffrey has done ok.  Everyone keys on him. Yet he manages to do his thing. I expect the Niners will win. But it won’t be easy

The only team that has really stifled CMac was Tampa Bay, who has a great run D (#1 in the league I think? Vita Vea is a monster) - and an atrocious pass D. I don't think the 9ers' run D is as good, but Saleh made great adjustments after Peterson ran all over them on the first drive in DC. This should be their biggest test yet.

And this is why I don't play the lottery.
