Up 27-3 on Carolina...it's a massacre. 6 sacks and a pick.

McCaffrey had a very nice game 113-18 carries. Would have had 160 but for a penalty. Bosa has been a beast. Jeez he’s still in. Down 44-13. That is crazy.

It was a good Sunday for the Bosas. Brother Joey has two sacks and three TFL’s for the chargers.

A big part of the 49er narrative I've been reading over the past few weeks is "Yeah, the Niners are 6-0, but they haven't played anybody. Wait until they play a
real team." Carolina was 4-2 with the third best defense in the league. And then the Niners hung 51 points on them.
And all of a sudden, two of the remaining Niner games are against a sub-.500 Cardinals club. The Cardinals, at 3-4-1, got smoked by the Saints, 31-9 and they play the Niners on Thursday. Hallowe'en.

Anyone who paid attention could see how great a coach in the making Kyle Shanahan was. He was almost winning games with one of the worst rosters in the NFL, and without Jimmy G. They would have been .500 had he not had the ACL tear in 2018. Which is to say that knee injury was the best thing that happened to him and the Niners because it allowed them to lose enough games to get Nick Bosa.
The roster overhaul from the 2013 NFC CG is remarkable, but the coaching and GMing has been sublime. Bringing in Richard Sherman was smart. Trading for Dee Ford was smart. Signing Kwon Alexander was smart. Signing Tevin Coleman was smart. Moving to the Wide 9 was smart. Hiring Chris Korucek as DL coach was smart. And they have made some very good draft choices too. They have made so many good decisions that they have been able to miss on Jerick McKinnon, Reuben Foster, and arguably Solomon Thomas, without really missing a beat.
You watch the offensive schemes and coaching videos and it’s so damn impressive. Brilliant designs and top flight execution with talented players is a tough recipe to beat. But it is clear Lynch and Shanahan also understand the importance of and how to build a winning everyone trusts each other and has fun culture.
The Niners are looking like they are posed to once again be a serious contender. Just wait until they get a pro bowl WR or two and a play making Safety. Wow.

The Shanahan offense is everything I wish the Stanford offense could be. Stay true to our run oriented, west coast roots, but so much more creative. Lots of misdirection on runs, heavy use of play action, anything to keep the defense guessing and from playing downhill. Here’s hoping Shaw spends some time with Shanahan, or poaches a member of his staff.
One play that comes to mind is the Debo Samuel TD run. Blocked like a standard trap, there was a jet sweep motion (pure decoy) and the handoff went inside to the slot WR who cut it upfield like a typical power. Caught defense flat footed — Touchdown. Brilliant play design
I feel like there’s 5-6 of these every game you could point to.

Sure would be nice to draft or sign a free agent inside linebacker or safety.

Without both starting tackles and their fullback. Crazy.

I heard or read that three of their four top running backs -- all of whom seem to be doing quite well, thank you very much -- were undrafted free agents. Sounds to me as though Lynch and Shanahan are a pretty darned good team in the player-picking department.

Been saying for awhile that were I Shaw I’d spend the summer with Shanahan. And try to poach one of his coaches (prob QB coach - relatively young. Has been with a Shanahan a couple years) Shanahan is a tremendous offensive football coach. Of course he learned from his dad who is right off of the Walsh coaching tree. And a great coach.
49ers had a second and long from about the 16. I knew they were going to run a draw – because it’s fairly common for teams to run on second and long. They were in the shotgun and what made the play special is that he sent someone in motion and then had the flow moving left, then shot Coleman straight up the middle. He scored. Shanahan uses misdirection incredibly well.

I think if ever there is a position where UdFA’s can succeed, it is at running back. That, plus the short career most running backs have (Frank Gore excepted) is why teams tend not to spend too much in terms of draft capital on running backs.

BC, do you think the Niners spent too much to get Sanders? They got Sanders and a 5th round pick, giving up a 3rd and a 4th round pick. Because the Niners will pick so low, their 4th and Denver's 5th aren't all that far apart in value. So basically, it was Sanders for a 3rd+ pick. He's the #50 WR in the league, by yards per game. He was originally a 3rd round pick.
Thoughts?

Don’t know enough to comment here. I was speaking generally about UDFA running backs, not specifically about what the 49ers spent to get them.
