WSoc: NCAA Bracket - Stanford overall #1 -

Bracket reveal show
1 Stanford v Prairie View, then winner of Hofstra/Loyola - NO SANTA CLARA - Hurrah!
Other half of our bracket is #4 seed Penn State v Stony Brook, and Arizona hosting TCU.
Our 2 seed, as expected, is BYU, and the #3 is Arkansas.
Other highlights: FSU drew the fourth #1 seed, so would match up with us in the semis if chalk holds. UCLA is their #2.
Both USCs are #2s on the other side of the bracket, South Carolina to Virginia and and USC to North Carolina, respectively.
Pac 12 got NINE schools in, which is great - Utah plays at Duke in the first round lined up against FSU's 3 seed Wisconsin, Colorado hosts Northern Colorado to play UNC, Cal plays at Santa Clara to face UNC's #3 Oklahoma State, Washington State hosts Memphis lined up against Virginia, and finally, in Leslie Gallimore's final season, the Huskies earn the #4 seed in Florida State's regional, hosting Seattle.
All in all, a solid bracket, and I think Stanford has an appropriate bracket as the #1 overall.

I do wish the Selection Show host had something other than talking points - he called Macario a senior a few times, and said that 15 wins were only two off the most in the nation - Stanford finished 18-1.

Cal's turn to play Santa Clara in the tournament this year -- Yay!
USC and UCLA both beat 1-seed FSU at home, but their losses (other than to us) must have sunk them to 2-seeds: FSU's other losses were to #1 seeds UNC and Virginia (twice). USC and UCLA both seem much stronger 2-seeds than the other two, so glad we're not potentially playing them until the College Cup. South Carolina looks weaker to me than BYU: their best wins were Arkansas twice and Notre Dame, and lost to Clemson--just didn't play anyone else really good in preseason and SEC is not impressive this year. And BYU has that home 5-1 victory over Pepperdine!! But can't complain too much about this, it will be good to finish their season off with a loss.
Penn State seems like an unreasonably good 4-seed, probably should have been a 3. And it's an advantage to them that they already played us once. But we've gotten a lot better since then. Oh well, just gotta win.

One minor caveat - a couple of RPI issues with Stanford’s bracket. First, Hofstra is a substantial under seed, but it’s tough to rank smaller conference teams. They have a couple of good wins, but got stomped by Penn State earlier in the season.
The other is Arkansas, underseeded as a 3. But that’s balanced by BYU - that is a potentially really intriguing round of 16 game.
But hey, as long as Stanford keeps winning, all the games at home, then at Avaya. That’s the big benefit.

Stanford plays Prairie View A&M. First round games are on 11/15, 11/16 and 11/17.
SCU is 13-5-2, 7-0-2 in conference. Finished the season 9-0-2. Berkeley is 13-4-3. Earlier this year, UCB beat SCU 2-1 at home. Should be a good match.
Go Broncos!
NCAA Finals and semifinals are at Avaya stadium on 12/6 and 12/8. I can't make it, I'll be on the other side of the country.

An advantage for BYU to be hosting at 4500 feet. Arkansas sure wishes their seeds were swapped. But I would guess they would have swapped places with South Carolina had Arkansas beaten them in the SEC Tournament championship game.
I'm pretty sure that no one wants to be in our bracket!
And in other Stanford soccer news, Alana Cook made her USWNT debut yesterday and seems to have played well. Andi Sullivan also played, and Christen Press.
