OT: Janeane not a winner - cardcrimson - 11-11-2019

So many opportunities to succeed tonight. Failed on most of them. How incredibly disappointing. Easy to blame the rookie, recently signed kicker, but Janeane blew every chance to set up for the victory. Time to be looking for a QB with a killer instinct.

Name calling at 8-1?

7 WR drops, top 2 receiving options out, and Clowney making both OTs look like turnstiles. He was rattled and had no playmakers left.

Should have taken the tie.  Why the Janeane bit Card?  I agree he wasn’t good tonight. But still.  BTW - Staley got slaughtered tonight. That is as bad as I’ve seen a tackle get beat in a game in a long time. Tough dude – I mean he had a broken bone in his leg a few weeks ago, but man that was rough.

He's just name-shaming Jimmy Garoppolo and the comedienne/actress Janeane Garofalo.

As Lisa Loopner would say, "that was so funny, Todd, I forgot to laugh."

Big Joe’s last stand. The kid Skule is very good.

This is a really dumb take. His best two Receivers were out. Both OTs were rusty returning from injury. The guy played brilliantly in his last game. He’s 16-3 as an NFL starting QB. The WRs are the greatest weakness on the Niners team without Kittle and Sanders. Seattle’s game plan made Niners beat them with WRs and two Tackles coming back from injury. It worked.

And they are 9-0 with a 3 game division lead if they make FG in OT.

1.  The Niners' OL collapsed.  It didn't look good, gave up way too many sacks.  Big Joe's had a great career, but unless he ramps it up quickly -- and I get that he was going up against Clowney -- I would prefer to see Skule, who, from the very beginning has done an excellent job.  McGlinchey not much better.  Tomlinson looked slow and got beat.  Wes R. had a little injury.  Really hope they draft for OLs in the next draft.

2.  The Niners' receivers flat out suck except for Kittle and Sanders.  Garoppolo was 24 of 46, with the receivers' seven drops he could have been 31 of 46 easy.  I don't put Garoppolo's INT on Garoppolo, that was the fault of the WR who wimped out on a very long throw and refused to fight for the ball.

3. Coleman & Mostert did pretty well rushing.  Breida looked slow and uncertain.  Wonder if he has nagging injuries?

4. Rookie kicker did well except for when it counted the most.  Wishniwsky punted well, except for when it counted the most.  Story of the night.  Was it the hold?  His massive shank made me think it was a hold or snap issue rather than a kicking issue.

5.  Very good defensive effort.  Five sacks, nice job DL.  Seahawks longest non-QB run was nine yards.  I still wish they blitzed more.  Worked every time.  Wilson basically panicked immediately.  When he had a lot of time, particularly late in the game, he did well.  Niner D has third most takeaways in NFL with 20, last night they forced six fumbles and had one INT.  Only thing the Niner D couldn't really solve was Wilson's scrambling.  Wilson had nine yards per carry on six carries.

Only saw the last few drives. Certainly didn't look calm cool and collected like I've seen great QBs of the past. Granted, the OL looked pretty bad, and the receivers made a few drops, but he didn't look like Montana, Young, Elway or Luck out there. Not very inspiring nor confident. As for "Janeane", used that for a year or so, btw.

The niners are clearly trending down.  This is a failure of coaching.  They need to hire a new [fill in the blank].  Forget any past successes, only look at the Seahawk game and make changes for the future or the program is dead.  Blah, blah, blah . . . I've heard it all before.

Are you seriously comparing Shanahan to you-know-who?  (And I fully acknowledge that Shanahan lost the game for the 'Niners in OT).  Am amazed at "the blind spot" in these parts regarding a certain coach, but whatever, I'm trying not to post anymore about Stanford football.

Back on point:  I get that there were drops, but Lex's take on Jimmy G. was the correct one:  dude was skittish all night.  And how many bad balls did he throw that should have been picked?  At least two, maybe up to four?  And that doesn't include indecision/late balls/wobblers that allowed the D to get to the receiver and break up passes (the long sideline pass where WR got jolted just as wobbler arrived comes immediately to mind).  Overall, I'd give Jimmy about a C last night.  And that's not going to cut it against good teams like Seattle.

The receivers dropped SEVEN balls.  His top two receivers were out.  And Staley's matador performance made me wish for Skule, believe me.  Neither Staley nor McGlinchey looked very good.

BTW, for all you whiners and complainers about Garoppolo, after 19 games he's 16-3.  Better than Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Otto Graham, John Elway, Jim Plunkett, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and pretty much everyone not named Roethlisberger, Lamonica and Staubach.

RE: OT: Janeane not a winner - BobK - 11-13-2019

Thank you Mick. So tired of the whining when the Niners are 8-1.
