MBB vs Santa Clara 7pm - SamuelMcF - 11-16-2019

I'll likely be able to catch the 1H but that's it. Hopefully we'll be able to take the icky taste out of our mouths by beating a team that just beat Wazzu the other night.

Discuss!

Showing they’re already in mid season form, the refs have managed to call 14 fouls in under 6 minutes to start the second half. Both teams in the bonus for the last 14 minutes of the game. Hope it’s over by midnight...

How about that freshman Terry?

Just tuned in a few minutes ago but we're looking GOOD and I'm feeling a lot better about Stanford athletics now. Thanks, I needed that.

Davis, Da Silva, and Terry. DDT is lethal. :)

Really fun game except for all the foul calls. Defense so much better than the past and zterry with 21

ODS is a grown-ass man. 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Kisunas would've had a double-double (8pts 10r) had he not bricked his free throws.

Haase is really resting his laurels on playing aggressive defense, and we're seeing the fruits of that labor. The team really feels like a TEAM. Still not sure just how good we'll be, and lacking a true big man will probably hurt, but at least it's been very fun to watch so far.

Always enjoy games between my two favorite teams.  First game between the two teams in 11 years.  Unbelievable.  Stanford won going away, 82-64 after leading 38-32 at the half.  As noted, lots of fouls.  Stanford had 35 free throws thanks to 26 fouls by SCU.  That, combined with 17 SCU turnovers and 50% shooting by Stanford led to the win.  Stanford played great defense, as credited by SCU's coach Herb Sendek.  Stanford remains undefeated at 4-0, SCU is 3-1.

First men's game I've watched this year.  It was fun.  Santa Clara played extremely close man defense that was effective for the first part of the game, and Stanford's defense did not start out well at all.  But we switched to a lot of handoffs on offense and a lot of doubles on defense and the game turned around.  It was fun to see how the adjustments panned out--to our benefit.

I listened to the second half in the car on our way home. It's very refreshing that we might have a team that can hold a lead down the stretch, which at it's core comes from a) having a PG who isn't a turnover machine, and b) good shot selection.

But the competition to date has been pretty weak, so we will see as that starts to ramp up whether these things hold true.

I'm less pessimistic than I was going into the season, but I still don't see a 20-win team that's going to get to the Big Dance.

RE: MBB vs Santa Clara 7pm - BobK - 11-17-2019

I don’t know that a 20-12 for a Pac 12 team gets to the dance anymore. Hope you are right but doubt it

Sadly, it gets to one of the lesser dances, with an earlier curfew and a marginal garage band...

It's not just our boys that are off to a much better start thus far... if the rest of the Pac-12 can keep it up heading into conference play, a 20 win season (far from a certainty for us) could VERY well ensure a nice slot in the Big Dance this year!
