2012 Season - Rando - 08-27-2011

Just for the sake of looking ahead....who do you see as our starters next season?

Re: 2012 Season - Rando - 08-27-2011

I feel like S. Skov and S. Taylor might stay their senior seasons to get their degree. They never red-shirted. I'm including them on the list. I think Chase Thomas might go to the NFL Draft, because he is really good and will have graduated.

STARTERS LOST:
Offense: Luck, Martin, DeCastro, Owusu, Whelan, Fleener (possibly Mabry, Bentler)
Defense: Howell, M. Thomas, C. Thomas

DEPTH CHART
QB - Nottingham, Nunes, Picazo, Hogan, Crower
HB - S. Taylor, Wilkerson, Gaffney, Wright/Young/Seale
FB - Hewitt
WR1 - Montgomery, Patterson
WR2 - Terrell, Knapp
TE-Ertz, Toilolo, Dudchock
RT-Fleming
RG-Underwood
C-Schwartzstein, Wilkes
LG-Danser
LT-Yankee

LE-Gardener
NT-Stephens
RE-Mauro
OLB-Debniak, Anderson, N. Davis
ILB-P. Skov
ILB-S.Skov,
OLB-Vaughters, Murphy, N. Davis
CB1-Amanam, Bernard
CB2-Browning, Evans
SS-Reynolds
FS-Lyons

Honestly, this doesn't seem like a team in bad shape.

Re: 2012 Season - fullmetal - 08-27-2011

If Stanford doesn't see some breakout performances from receivers this year, we could be in a pickle.  That said, we could just expand the local TWU and just pave highways all game long with the single-wing offense.  The RB depth is beautiful and terrible to behold.

Re: 2012 Season - Hank 91 - 08-27-2011

That depth chart looks pretty impressive, especially on defense. I noticed your inclusion of Blake Leuders. Any word on him currently? I had expected him to be contributing this year, but it looks like he's losing out to Debniak.

he's losing out to Murphy but I think it is more indicative of Murphy improving rather than Leuders not living up to his potential so that should be a good thing.

My notes:
1. The winner of the RT battle will be the starting LT next season, so Fleming it is.
2. Gaffney is almost a lock to go pro in baseball next year.
3. A monster year from Taylor probably sends him to the NFL a year early. RBs don't last long so he'd be stupid to stick around another year. He can get his degree in the off season.
4. I think there's a good chance Shayne Skov leaves early too. He's that good and can get his degree in the off season.
5. Pat Skov has been moved back to FB but he could still get moved back to ILB next year. Lee Ward is currently injured and Hewitt is really an h-back.
6. Lyons is currently playing CB so I don't think he's a lock at FS just yet. If he sticks there then I think it is Carrington at FS and Reynolds at SS. And don't forget Rashard Pippens.
7. Alex Carter is supposed to come in at CB and he seems to want to play CB.
8. Vaughters seems to be a good fit at any LB position so that's a brobdingnagian plus.
9. I'm not sure Mauro starts over Henry Anderson next year. Anderson has been getting reps at NT so that has to mean something.
10. I'm excited for the season to start.

Re: 2012 Season - Rando - 08-28-2011

Thanks guys. I know it wasn't the most accurate, but it was a start.

If Nottingham can be half of what Luck is, we could still be a BCS threat potentially. It's wishful thinking, but I have high hopes. We should be consistently in the top 25 in my opinion.

I think our program has improved for the long haul, not just a couple of seasons.
