Ducks WVB Drops PSU @ PSU - unclechuck - 08-27-2011

This may spice up the season a bit. U/SC plays PSU today as well.

Viking - is PSU way down this year?

Alright! The PAC-12 is so tough. This will help the rankings. Hope SC wins

I think not so much down as young.  They graduated 6 seniors, and only have one left on the roster, Kabbes, a good blocker in the middle.  And they did rally to beat #2 U/SC in 5, after losing the first two, led by a sophomore and a freshman.

Of course, they were also playing at home.  We'll see how they play on the road.  In about 2 weeks.  September 9 at Maples, to be precise.  Also a few weeks later at Nebraska.

More interesting was SC's collapse.  They led in game 4 16-8, then let the Lions run off a 11-3 run to tie the game at 19.

General assessment?  Talented but vulnerable.  Deja McClendon is great.  And you'd better get them now; their 4 best players on the floor against the Trojans were two sophomores and two freshmen.

You're right, things will be more interesting this season.

Rice isn't a powerhouse imho (neither is Delaware)...I feel like the scheduling was a nice perk for Mary Ellen Luck.  I almost drove over to catch the tourney and visit family, but there was too much to do in Austin.  Ah well.

Reports are that Stanford WVB has verbals on five heralded recruits for the next freshman class.

Alternative theory for SU women's recruiting success - Redrum - 08-29-2011

Young women athletes are just more sensible than men.  Love to compete but don't have the Big Show of college football that seems to turn many young men's minds to mush.  Apart from a limping WNBA,  college athletics is the pinnacle for all but a few.  Might as well get the best education at the best-supported women's program.    Doesn't hurt that the campus is drop-dead gorgeous,  the weather great and the quality of the other students one gets to hang with is pretty evident.  Â
