CWS, here we come! - Sue_Ann_Duckett - 05-31-2010

Not only did the Stanford baseball team make the NCAA tournament, it\'s a No. 2 seed.

Amazingly, eight of the Pac-10 teams made it to the NCAAs.

Sadly, I\'ll be tracking this one via KZSU...   is anyone out there going to Fullerton?

Re: CWS, here we come! - GoodGrief - 06-01-2010

i\'ll be there! just bought my ticket at http://www.fullertontitans.com/tickets/prices-policies.html

i\'m a cheapskate, so i got general admission. But no matter how bad the seats are, they\'ll be better than what I got two years ago when we played in the CWS in Fullerton. The game was a complete sellout, and I arrived too late for any scalpers, so I watched much of the game from a hole in the outfield fence six inches above the ground:

However, there was one VERY redeeming moment about watching the game from a tree/fence crack/fence hole:

Thank you, Jason Castro!

If you\'d like to read more in detail about my adventure outside the stadium, I blogged it at http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=7062795&blogId=404274789

(yeah, it was so long ago that I was still on myspace...)

Sweet sweet story, GoodGrief.

But really - you gave away Jason Castro\'s home run ball?!?

Bigger man (and heart) than I.

Kudos,

MC

Re: CWS, here we come! - GoodGrief - 06-07-2010

Thanks for the kind words, MC. Yeah, it was tough to give up the homerun ball, but I like to think that I inspired some kid to play baseball for the Cardinal before he goes on to his steroid-induced major league career. As much as I hate to admit it, with each passing year, I feel my chances of getting drafted in the major leagues getting smaller and smaller. I feel the same about my chances of winning the 100m dash in the Olympics.

Anyway, I got to the Fullerton regional on Friday at the top of the 7th inning, just in time for the walk-fest. I hate sitting down/turning on the TV just as we start doing poorly--it makes me feel like I\'m the jinx.

Anyway, we all know the unfortunate results of the regional. That was a bummer. But just for nostalgia, I revisited the area from where I watched the game two years ago (btw, sorry the pix are so brobdingnagian--i have no idea why despite shrinking their size in photobucket, they\'re displaying so large on The CardBoard:

The view from the outfield fence along the first base line is the same:

The peephole in the outfield fence six inches above the ground is still there:

Unfortunately, they strung a banner over the peephole, so the only way to see anything is through the peephole-within-the-peephole:

The view from the tree\'s still good though:

All the same, I was glad I had a seat this time...
