All-Era Team since 2007? -
Row80Critic - 11-26-2019
If you were to assemble the ultimate all-era team from among those who played in the Harbaugh/Shaw era, who would be your starters, and how would that team match up against the current top 4?

Probably pretty well, since the best teams from that era (2010, 2011, 2015), each of which had a top-2 ranked offense on a points per drive basis. Add some of the top-10 defenses (2010 and 2014), and you wouldn't even need to pick a player by player all-era team.
The 2010 was a top-4 team at the time, and could have made a case for being one of the top 2 teams by the end of the year.
Player by player, I would have loved to see a backfield with McCaffrey and Luck together.

And any of Marecic, Ward or Marx blocking. Bryce Love in the slot. Ertz flexed, Dray blocking TE, Baldwin and JJ wide.
Linebackers Thomas, Skov, Martinez, Murphy. Mike Thomas at nickel, Sherman and the freshman Holder, Howell and Reynolds. Solomon Thomas, Phillips and Anderson.
Murphy, Garnett, Beeler, DeCastro and Martin/Yankey. Cuddy at Ogre.

LOL, too many greats to just limit to starters. I like Phogge's list but it's hard to leave Peat off the OL. Gerhart behind Marecic in the backfield, McCaffrey in the slot. Taylor and Love make the team, too. Bailey punts but PK is a real tossup. I'm partial to Whitaker just for the ND win.

I think you mean Ukropina.

Man, this is hard, but my 21 personnel alignment on offense (no cheating by moving guys out of position) goes as follows:
OL: Murphy, Garnett, Beeler, DeCastro, Peat (hard to believe Papa Yank is left off, or Martin for that matter)
QB: Luck
FB: Marecic (could be any of them, but Marecic was the best pass catching FB)
RB: McCaffrey (hard to believe that a Voldemort finalist would be left out)
TE: Ertz
WR: JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Ty Montgomery
Defense:
DE: Thomas, Anderson
DT: Parry
ILB: Martinez and Skov
OLB: Thomas and Murphy
CB: Adebo and Bademosi (Sherman the better pro, but was not a shutdown corner at Stanford)
S: Reid and Howell
MTIII as the Nickelback for those alignments
ST:
Punter: Bailey
Kicker: Toner
PR/KR: McCaffrey

I think people are giving Sherman credit for what he would go on to do after college.

Ah yes, you’re right. Ukropina beat ND in 2015 and Whitaker beat $C in 2010. My senior moment for today!

Flat out in college Sherman in his senior year was better than Bademosi. And in college Rich Keller was better than either.

I went back and looked at the stats; you are right. Sherman had more interceptions and pass break-ups than Bandemosi.
That being said, the Stanford cornerbacks since 2007 who have been nominated to the Pac-10/12 all conference team:
2015 Ronnie Harris (2nd team)
2017 Quenton Meeks (2nd team)
2018 Paulson Adebo (1st team)
Neither Bandemosi nor Sherman made the all conference team.
So maybe I'd pick Adebo and Harris.
At safety, I wanted to amend my pick. Justin Reid would still make my team, but Ed Reynolds was a two-time first team all conference player, so maybe Reid and Reynolds with Howell and Richards backing up.

Reid went out in a bad way so maybe I should be forgiving. He got beat twice covering the slot against SC in the title game and it probably cost Stanford the win. He had a good year with Houston in 2018, not sure this year and in the NFL DB stats don’t tell the whole story.
My opinion but I think Adebo is overrated.

I tend to agree. He has some skills, but this year he was very vulnerable to double moves, at least early in the year. He had some people just run by him, which I think he didn't expect. He also has problems tackling, probably because he just isn't big enough. He gets there, but sometimes doesn't bring the guy down. I hope he comes back in order to build his draft stock back up to where it was. Probably not financially wise, and most people say he isn't going to return. However, he and the fans can hope for a "Return to Adebo Island" program next fall.

Good picks.
Baldwin at WR instead of Montgomery. (That’s the senior year version of Baldwin.)
Harrison Phillips at DT. A 100 tackle season by a nose tackle can’t be ignored.

How can we forget Owusu at KR?
