Happy Thanksgiving! - 2006alum - 11-28-2019

Happy Thanksgiving to Cardboarders one and all. Among the many things I'm grateful for this year are our many national championships this past season, our relentless streak of Directors Cup wins, and most of all, the fantastic fellow Stanford sports fan commentary and camaraderie provided by all of you. A safe and happy holiday to you and yours!

My son and I will be at Kezar Stadium , 10:00 a.m. this morning watching Balboa play Lincoln in the  the annual Turkey Day  SF City AAA League Championship high school football game.

Have fun at Kezar. 57 years ago we beat Lowell to complete a perfect season and win a national championship. We had an even better team the next year and stuffed Mike Holmgren and Lincoln in a Kennedy delayed semi. Bombed Washington the next week.

Enjoy the day. Go Bucs! Go Mustangs!

I don't have a dog in the fight, but today is the annual "Big Bone" game between San Jose's two oldest public high schools, San Jose High and Lincoln High School.  Been played every year since 1943.  My grandmother attended San Jose High, class of '38, before she went on to Stanford.  Lincoln has won 21 in a row and leads the series 38-24.

St. Ignatius. We never settled for field goals.

SI had a strong 2019 football season, tied for WCAL first place with Valley Christian and Serra.

Can you name the man who played 189 home games at Kezar Stadium (for Polytechnic High School, USF, and the 49ers) ?

For the 1928 Turkey Day game Lowell defeated Poly in front of 50,000 fans.
Today Lincoln defeated Balboa in front of about 2,000 fans.
Obviously, 90 years of "evolution" has decreased the appetite of spectators to attend high school football games.
In 1928 Stanford Stadium had a seating capacity of 90,000 and Pop Warner was the team's head coach.

Where did Bob St. Clair graduate college and where was his off season business located?
