WSoc: Stanford v BYU -
81alum - 11-29-2019
Pac 12 Network and Pac 12 Bay Area are carrying the volleyball game. Or so they say.
Stanford livestream says the next scheduled event is Dec 1. Unless it is wrong--this is where the video link from the soccer schedule directs you, after all.
Is there any video coverage of the game against BYU?

So it’s just a stream but it should be free for everyone. And I think these streams also show up on the network app for mobile and devices like appletv.

Thanks, but when I go there I just get a reminder that volleyball is live now on Pac 12 network. Anyone successfully getting the soccer now?

When I click on the link to the soccer game, I get a message that volleyball is playing on the Stanford streaming site. Anyone know if there's a trick to get the soccer game that I am not doing?

Final - Stanford 5, BYU 1. Stanford vs. UCLA in the College Cup next Friday at 4 pm in San Jose.
On the other side of the bracket, North Carolina held off USC 3-2. WSU scored in the 96th minute to beat South Carolina and make it 3 Pac 12 teams in the final 4.

WSU just scored the golden goal. Corner kick, South Carolina defender rises up near post, but only grazes the ball, turning into a perfect backpost flick for an unmarked WSU player, who buries the volley from 3 yards out into the top of the net.
Dammit, USC (California edition), that could've been glorious.
They've announced already Stanford UCLA as the early game Friday at 4 pm, followed by UNC-WSU.
More in a bit,

A few more thoughts.
UCLA is in my opinion our toughest match-up - not that both WSU and especially UNC would not be tough games. But the Bruins, formation and talent-wise, play right into where we've had problems on the rare occasions that happens this year.
They play 5 midfielders, which will take away space and passing channels moving forward, and overload at the weakest point of our defense, in front of the backline. I find it telling that, set pieces aside, we've given up most of our goals this year up the middle channel, either on runs or turnovers deep.
Also, their confidence has to be pretty darned high right now. Beating the defending national champs twice in one season, including 4-0 on their home pitch in the NCAA quarters, is really impressive.
Even more key against the Bruins than today will be the great hold-up play of Madison Haley - she has an opportunity to shine yet again if she can receive or run onto long balls over the top of a crowded midfield, hopefully laying off as sublimely as she did today to an onrushing Macario.
And truly a remarkable run by the Cougars. To beat on successive weekends two of the top eight teams in the country on their home fields is great for both WSU and for the Pac-12; I can't imagine a lot of argument at present against its ascendance as the top women's soccer conference in the country. I mean, the conference just outscored the rest of the country 12-4 in the NCAA quarterfinals.
One other positive - not North Carolina in the semis. I wouldn't want to go to the finals with our top players injured.

I'm sure the coaches will learn from our earlier game vs. UCLA. But their dribble drives are so skilled, fast, and dangerous. I never felt comfortable at that game.

Stanford has eliminated BYU in NCAA tournaments in three different sports in the past 12 months - women's volleyball semis, women's basketball 2nd round and now quarterfinals of women's soccer.

Thanks for that! I'm reminded of how awful the coverage of the Stanford game was--one corner was obstructed from view, the camera angle was often not good, fans would raise their arms in front of the camera, etc. All the other games were much more professionally done.
What happened on our fifth goal? I could not see well at the time or on the replay. Did it hit the post and ricochet off the back of the BYU keeper into the goal?
For shear drama, nothing beats the WSU golden goal.
If only USC had pulled it out. One of the only times in my life I actually wanted a USC team to win, and of course it loses.

I think they threw it together at the last minute since Pac 12 only covered the volleyball game. It looked like there was a single camera under the tent--it was raining--and apparently its tripod did not permit it to see all the way into the near corners. It also did not seem to have much, if any, of a zoom capacity. Nor did it have any substantial elevation. It was as if a fan was doing it with a camcorder.
At least it was better than nothing.

Actually, they had two cameras. The first was in its normal position, up near the commentators at the top of the main stands. But its view of the near sideline was blocked by the giant white tent that DAPER had put up over their central tables in the plaza. So they put another camera under that tent, which I think was a fixed-field camera - they couldn't pan or zoom it at all, and it had one static shot that left out about a 15 yard radius around that corner flag. So all the corner kicks and action in that space wasn't visible. Troy actually joked about it, saying he'd have to become a radio play-by-play guy for game play in that space.
The bigger issue for me was the two ACC games we were completely blocked out of - (and for the people who had trouble getting the Pac-12 feed because of log-in issues.) I think the NCAA may have to adopt some open-carriage policies (or whatever the correct word is) for their games, because it's a bit ridiculous that the coverage is now getting worse because of conference television packages.

This seems like a very easy target to hit to get more revenue. Kind of like taxing tourists. If a few parents or alums from the visiting school pay for access, then great. If they don't then no biggie, the channel wasn't really for them anyway.
The problem for the NCAA is that building up the infrastructure for streaming is not free, and many schools don't have anything. So it doesn't seem right to force those that have it to give away their most valuable Olympic sport content.
Stanford streaming is very generous with access, but I don't think the NCAA would or could mandate free access for everyone at every venue.
