OT: WBB, Louisville 72 Oregon 62 - mbdude - 11-30-2019

Oregon very poor shooting. Louisville very patient, slow, opportunistic

from Graham Hays
"No. 8 Louisville does what even Team USA could not in women's basketball, handing No. 1 Oregon its first loss of the season 72-62 in the Paradise Jam. Senior Kylee Shook with maybe the game of her career, 18 points and 15 rebounds while also spending time guarding Sabrina Ionescu. But this was a total team win, the Cardinals able to throw so much speed and size at Oregon defensively to erase an early double-digit deficit. Ducks shoot 6-of-34 from 3 against that D.

I don't have fond memories of the last time we played Louisville.  So I'm not quite sure what to think of this.  Oregon certainly can't be a lesser team this year than last, so I wonder if Louisville is even better than expected this year.

Well, we will find out how we stack up--early in the development of our young team--with an elite team in a few hours.  Then we can start thinking about the Oregons and the Louisvilles.

#2 goes down as well: South Carolina 74-59 over Baylor at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands.

#3 needs to not suffer the same fate!

Well, I am happy any day that Kim Mulkey loses, and I am not too unhappy when Dawn Staley wins, so long as it isn't against us.

It is early season and nobody truly knows how good anyone is.  These games show that.  Prognostication is not an advanced science.

Baylor had an incredibly weak schedule to date, Indiana toughest test to this point; but they are still without Lauren Cox who is dealing with a foot injury. Neither team looked sharp though

Oregon was playing its third game in 3 days at the Paradise Jam at the conclusion of a 10 day East Coast road trip that started with a win @ then #17 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. One might speculate that dead legs were a contributing factor in the very poor shooting performance. It will be interesting to see how Louisville progresses to see if the above mentioned "defensive speed and size" are as formidable as touted. That said, am betting Tara is looking forward to getting that game film that shows Ionescu going 6-20 from the field and 1-9 for 3s.
