Poll: How many games will Stanford win this year? -
Spiny_Norman - 08-29-2011
After a loooooong 8 months of anticipation, we have finally reached Game Week - the start of the 2011 season! I think it is time to register your expectations for Stanford this year. Who still has EUTM? Who has been convinced by the nattering nabobs of negativity that Stanford is overrated? All comments welcome in addition to your vote.

11-1 regular season
we beat Oregon but lose to someone we should beat, not sure who but think OSU and UW are most likely if the team gets caught looking ahead.
12-1 winning Pac-12 championship game
13-1 winning Rose Bowl (think we have a tough time getting to the NCG unless we are undefeated)

Rose Bowl

I'd like to enter a petition that the bowl the Pac-12 traditionally sends its champion to be referred to as the Pasadena Bowl henceforth. No jinxing, ya know.
Anyway, I think we play there.

I went 11 wins with the 12th in the bowl.
Another question is whether or not to cheer for Oregon this weekend.
If Oregon beats LSU, then Oregon vs. Stanford could be epic. However, that would also mean that Oregon likely does not look over UW the week before the Stanford game. If Oregon beats LSU, I think they may keep it together and run the table. If that happens, then perhaps Stanford gets into the Rose Bowl back door thanks to a superior ranking in the polls vs the team from the south.
If Oregon falls to LSU, then their season and the Pac-12 conference go down hill from there. That might be OK as Stanford could win in another "down" year for the conference, but it might be more fun to be at Stanford for a mega-game win or lose.

The deck is stacked against LSU with the arrest of their QB + other player(s). Oregon's DC should have a field day if he does his job correctly.

Ditto 82lsju: beat Ducks; lose one surprise; win conf, win bowl but not NC game = 13-1.
Loss will be in the rain, in Corvallis on Nov 5th, the week after a max effort on the road vs U/SC and the week before the big showdown with the Ducks - 3 week emotional roller coaster of elation; depression; redemption.
This presumes us being jobbed out of NC by a 1 loss SEC team and 1 undefeated from other BCS auto conference.
I would be soooo happy to be wrong on that.

Farm93 - UW is a Ducks hated rival right up there with OSU and in some eyes more so. Game is in Seattle and would be a season making victory for Huskies so they will be all in. They have a solid, very physical defense and should leave the Ducks very battered & bruised. About the best kind of week before game Cardinal could hope for.
UO has a brutal November of @ UW, @ LSJU, SC @ home, Beavers @ home. Hard for me to see them getting through that stretch without a loss, but it's essential for Cardinal to win to insure a tiebreaker for conference game. At that point LSU win by UO floats all Pac12 boats.

Is nobody else worried about getting screwed by the SEC even in a run-the-table type scenario? I keep reading/watching on ESPN about whether the SEC will make it 6 in a row and how the winner of the SEC championship game is automatically one side of the NCG. So what happens in the event that OU goes undefeated and one loss LSU or Alabama wins the SEC championship game? Even if LSJU is undefeated having won the Pac12 championship, does anyone think the system will really let Stanford "jump" a team from the vaunted SEC?
I realize that there really isn't any reason to get all worked up about this at this point, I guess I'm just a bit scared by the amount of sheer optimism I'm feeling about this season and looking for something to temper that.
BTW, on the subject of OU, remember two years ago when we played them in the Sun bowl? And how there was a fair amount of back and forth on injuries, and how we had no business equating what we lost with having Andrew Luck gone versus what they lost with losing Sam Bradford? As I recall, we ended up with Tavita Pritchard (one of my all time favorites b/c of USC) who is now a defensive assistant on the team. Who did OU end up having to put in? I can't remember, but he probably hasn't done much as a QB...

I assume you are being facetious here. It was Landry Jones, who is the current runner up to Luck as far as Voldemort hopefuls are concerned.

Landry Jones has performed very well for the Sooners since replacing Sam Bradford.

Yup. I love Tavita, but I don't think that OU had much of a case when they argued that the drop off from Sam Bradford -> Landry Jones was much larger than Andrew Luck -> Tavita Pritchard.

I'm cheering big time for Oregon against LSU. I want every team we beat to beat every other team they play.
