MBB Bracketology -
Papa John - 12-04-2019
I just checked out the December 2nd Bracketology from Joe Lunardi on ESPN, and Stanford is listed as the final team in Next Four Out, which I believe makes us #76.
Oklahoma, whom we handily defeated in KC, is a 10-seed and Butler, to whom we narrowly lost in KC, is a 5-seed. Future opponent Kansas is projected as a 1-seed.
In conference, Lunardi has Oregon and Arizona as 4-seeds and Washington and Colorado as 7-seeds. We play Oregon, Washington and Colorado home-away and Arizona home-only during the regular season.
With the exception of the KU matchup at Maples on December 29, the rest of our non-conference schedule consists of games that can only hurt us (@ SJSU, vs USF, @ Chase Center vs USD).

This is encouraging. We're at least getting looks, which is a far cry from where the team has been.
FWIW, we are ranked #34 by Sagarin and #52 by KenPom. The "middle tier" of the Pac-12 below the top 4 you mentioned (Stanford, USC, Oregon St, Arizona St) are all ranked between #52-#64. Should be fun.

Like the students, I can’t wait for Finals Week to be over!

I think my calendar app isn't working--it shows this to be the first week of December, not the first week of March. . . .

If you’re referring to my comment, I’m talking about the two weeks (dead week and finals) when there are no games. If you’re referring to our enthusiasm about our MBB team’s outlook, what’s wrong with being optimistic? :)

So shouldn't Lunardi have seeded us somewhere between a 5 and a 10?

No, actually I wasn't commenting on your post. Just ridiculing "bracketology" in December when there are three months of basketball yet to be played. Kinda like hand-wringing after not being included in the first "way too early football rankings" last year. We actually came in number 20 in the second, updated poll, ironically just behind Northwestern and way behind WSU. Brilliant. . . .

And FWIW, I look forward to this year's hoops team--lots of promise.
