WBB: other schools Sedona prince, Oregon. waiver denied - mbdude - 12-11-2019

The waiver and subsequent appeal denied. Prince was injured while at Texas
Talented big.

Interesting. Actually injured proir to Texas while playing for a National Team. Given she couldn't play last season I thought she would get a waiver. Plus hoping to p of Geno.

Guess the door slammed shut after Louisville got waivers for its players?

So, she can't play right away, but she still has all four years of eligibility?  Her first collegiate game will come as a junior?

Unless Prince gets a medical redshirt for this season it’s still 5 years to play 4.

Oh, I see.  So the transfer cost her a year.  She will have three years left only.  That is tough for a kid who has never played a minute.

If the NCAA is being this tough, I am not optimistic for Anna Wilson's appeal.

What happened at Louisville?

If Prince wanted to play so badly this season, she should have stayed at Texas.

RE: WBB: other schools Sedona prince, Oregon. waiver denied - Jskass - 12-12-2019

Louisville got 3 transfers this summer: Balogun, Dixon and Smith. Miraculously all on roster - at least the first two were granted immediate eligibility (and I am guessing Smith too from Cal). Seems like most of the waiver requests since those have been denied. NCAA loves Walz?

RE: WBB: other schools Sedona prince, Oregon. waiver denied - BobK - 12-12-2019

Smith wasn’t and she isn’t playing

Read up on the accusations about Balogun's and Dixon's former coach and tell me they didn't qualify for a waiver per NCAA rules. IMHO, I think the NCAA has been pretty dang consistent - the bar is much higher to show that injury-related issues warrant a waiver than allegations of coaching abuse/misconduct. I have yet to see a waiver outcome this cycle I think was unjust or hard to square with the NCAA's own rules for how this works (based on publicly available information). You can disagree with the entire NCAA transfer waiver system, but I don't think it's fair to suggest that the first to apply get an edge, or that one school is uniformly favored over another.

Do you think Anna Wilson deserves a 5th year ? Of course the bigger question does she want one ?

I can't remember who, but there was someone who had played part of one season before being injured, and part of another season before being injured, and the NCAA granted a medical 5th year by effectively saying she lost a season between the two partial seasons. Critically her combined total number of games played was many more than the 6 games Wilson played her freshman year, so I feel like there's a reasonable case, especially given Wilson's other injury issues her sophomore year - she played a combined 27 games between her first two years on the Farm, which is less than a full season, so I think she has a plausible case. No insight as to whether she wants one and/or whether the coaches are encouraging her to seek one. Whether and who else commits in the 2021 class alongside Demetre might help answer that question.

not disputing whether anyone deserved them. Just saying that other than those two there have been tons of rejections (all of whom cry foul of course). Understood everyone trying for an angle and most don't really qualify.

Maybe I am delusional, but I think at a chalk talk very early this year someone asked about Anna and the answer was that she was waiting on an appeal.  I hope I am not misremembering--maybe someone else who goes to chalk talks can confirm that I heard this correctly.

A couple of years ago there was an article about her, but it sheds no light on her intentions:

https://www.sfgate.com/collegesports/article/Stanford-freshman-Anna-Wilson-to-seek-additional-11092052.php

Quote:Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer is pessimistic that Wilson will get the year back, saying the rule “seems rigid.”
She said Wilson “has a tremendous upside as a point guard. She’s athletic, heady and she has a good three-point shot.”

She doesn’t know whether Wilson will want a fifth year. Wilson doesn’t know, either.
“It’s a decision I don’t have to make for a long time,” she said in the locker room in Dallas after Stanford lost to South Carolina in the national semifinals on March 31. “It’s something I’m taking my time with.” But, she said, “I think about it every single day.”

True 81. I just didn't want to post the details. :)

RE: WBB: other schools Sedona prince, Oregon. waiver denied - CardinalWBBFan - 12-12-2019

The Louisville players are a totally different situation. Their coach was fired for abuse. Any kid there should have been able to leave and immediately play at the school of their choice. There is absolutely no way those kids don't get immediately eligible. I do not believe Smith applied for a waiver, because they likely believed there was not much of a chance there.

Per the WBBBlog, 28 have been approved and 6 (though likely many more unconfirmed, ex. Mizzou put in three, nothing has been announced.) have been denied.
