has to be Harbaugh. Not sure I really understand all the animosity, but the hatred seems to run wide and deep. From Finebaum regarding the Citrus Bowl:
“I’ve never heard Nick Saban say anything about another coach nor have I ever seen intentionally run up the score on anyone until yesterday,” Finebaum said. "We all know that could’ve easily ended before it did. . . .He decided, you know what? My foot is on his throat. I’m just going to kick him one more time. I felt like the college-football world cheered Saban yesterday in doing that. I know I did."

Harbaugh's an odd guy, but geez. . .
However, now that Kiffen's back in the limelight in the SEC, he'll regain the mantle soon enough.

Finebaum is a hack. He's the SEC's Jon Wilner, and since "it just means more" that means he has a lot more eyeballs and is therefore a lot more inflammatory. Please don't give him clicks or attention.

Far from a hack, pretty accomplished guy who even broke a story that ended with Alabama on probation. I lived in the Deep South for five years, his radio show was great and listened to it often. Been around a lot longer than Wilner, and people actually pay attention to him.

He had to explain why his Saint Saban did such a terrible thing.
Harbaugh and Michigan had the gumption to hold camps in SEC territory so that is why Harbaugh is not loved by many at SEC programs.
It will be interesting to see where Harbaugh lands after he leaves Michigan. He probably will only get a few more chances for his first win beat tOSU.

not sure hack is correct; SEC homer would be more apt. once was a newspaper reporter but has been radio/print editorialist for probably 20 years now.

Exactly. And as an SEC Homer, Feinbaum has to carry the SEC flag and be offended by Harbaugh's audacity. Thus, any tweak/bash on Harbaugh is a good thing.
Having said that, Harbaugh went for a 2-point conversion at SC with Stanford up 48-21 (?), just so he could drop a 50-bomb on Pete at SC. And Harbaugh is so tunnel-visioned (and self-centered) that he doesn't engender any professional courtesy from anyone anywhere. In other words, you reap what you sow; what goes around comes around, etc.

Yeah, I was going to say Harbaugh would never do anything like run the score up on anyone.

Harbaugh was Moses to Stanford. This isn't backyard knee football. Sure glad that Ike went for the throat in Europe and that Harballs did while in Paly.

Yeah. Mr. Nice Guy was not going to get the program turned around from the Buddy/Wlat disaster.

Homer, certainly. Then again, it's the SEC that pays a chunk of his salary, and SEC fans that support the rest. Started in radio in the 80s as the sports guy for Mark and Brian when they were still in Birmingham, before they hit LA.
Harbaugh certainly beats to a different drum. Did great things for Stanford, yet his bow to no program, doesn't play well across the county. Sleeping in high schooler's rooms is a bit odd, as well.

Yeah, like there's no difference between "Mr. Nice" and going for a 2-point conversion just so you could drop a 50-spot on an already-beaten opponent. That's not "nice" or "not nice" - that's just being a dick. Period. [And lest you forget, Stanford later exceeded the 50-point threshold with another TD . . .].

I didn't like the decision at the time, and still don't. That said, a talking head somewhere mentioned that it wasn't like Petey hadn't been doing similar to opponents in the Pac-12 for years, so payback was a . . . .

SC history is loaded with 50+ point games with RBs and WRs partying in the end zone.
I wasn’t a classy move but SC’s outrage was a bit much.
Stanford didn’t pass late in that game, so running up the score happened because SC couldn’t stop the run even when they knew the next play would be another run.
I remember listening to the SC post-game in my car after that game. People were claiming Carroll was unable to coach the talent. Had to retire. Themes that sounded crazy to me but appeared to be the norm on the show.
Carroll left at the end of that season and those SC fans got what they deserved, one of the worst decades for SC football.

Right? I remember that in the moment watching that game with a bunch of Big Ten fans of various teams (the point being, none with an affinity for Stanford other than their friendship with me), and the universal opinion about Harbaugh going for two was "kind of a dick move, sure, but it's also kind of awesome that someone is putting 50 on SC--screw those guys."
Being a bully is bad. But bullying the neighborhood bully is something different.

Harbaugh saved Stanford football at a dark time and was also a jerk in many ways. People are far more complicated than merely being angels or devils.
Running up the score vs $C was tiny among Harb's ... issues.

From the outhouse to the penthouse... almost. At the end of 2010 they were the best team in the country. Let there be "issues." As Lincoln said of Grant when the press was clamoring for his relief, "He fights."

And at the end of that season, players, admins and Harbaugh himself were not unpleased to see him go. He's in my good graces forever for what he did to turn our fortunes around but I think his shelf life had expired.

My dad worked for Harry Cohn among others. He was Harbaugh on steroids.

Being a bully is bad. But bullying the neighborhood bully is something different.
I didn't say bullying the bully was bad;
I didn't say running the ball later right down the throat of SC defense for the TD that exceeded 50 points was bad;
I didn't say you we should be able to take all the good of Harbs with none of the bad;
I didn't say that his "fight" and attitude was dime a dozen (to the contrary - his recipe was unique and just what Stanford needed).
I didn't say I was upset real time when watching (in fact, I chuckled in mild disbelief . . . but only mild).
All I said was that going for 2 was a dick move (it's so transparently and obviously an attempt to reach 50 point plateau . . . just because).
And it was.
And it's part and parcel of why other coaches have no qualms about needling the guy when they can (as Saban did).
P.S. IIRC, Harbaugh's post-game rationalizations on going for 2 were . . . awkward. It was some BS along lines of "No, we weren't going for 50 or trying to run it up; we saw something we thought would work . . . And then later, "Of course, if we knew we were going to get another TD, then we would not have gone for 2." Seriously, it was kooky words to that effect. Would have been much better to just admit it:
"Yeah, i wanted to hang 50 on SC and make a statement!"
