Best QB in football. Hands down. He’s what Elway would be playing with the weapons KC has, system and rules of today. If, as I suspect, KC wins this game, I have to believe they are brobdingnagian favorites to win it all.

This game is giving me flashbacks to the 2010 Oregon game, which is particularly painful as I think about how that game cost us what probably was the best chance we'll ever have at winning a national championship.

Prediction: Richard Sherman records a pick-six
off of Mahomes in the waning moments of the Super Bowl to win the game for SF and is named Super Bowl MVP.

It’s funny how everyone gets enamored with glitzy offensive teams. Mahomes is great, but defense wins championships and the team with the best defense is not Kansas City.

Reminder: the Titans beat the Chiefs earlier this season. (But so did the Texans.)

Or as Johnny Unitas once said " the best defense is a good offense"
RE: Mahomes -

Perry Mason disagreed with Unitas.

Not true and I know because this wel I watched the first episode. Perry was on the offense. Lol

Well, Lamar Jackson was unstoppable, until he was stoppable.

Jackson is electric. But he’s nowhere near the QB that Mahomes is. I had Tenn (plus the points).Wasn’t surprised they won. Was surprised by the decisiveness of their win. I had KC and laid the points. Figure they’d hammer Houston. I suspect they will be about 10 point favs over Tenn. Thinking Niners about 7.

Hard to argue that point. Stanford ran a clinic in the Orange Bowl. That half was just about perfectly executed plays. Fun to watch....

Will be fun to watch Mahomes in the Super Bowl. And it may well be against the Niner defense, as they are taking the Packers to the woodshed in the first half.

NFC > AFC
Mahomes is great, but Niners have best pass defense in NFL and second best run game to Baltimore. Garoppolo is fully capable of putting up big passing numbers if he must and KC doesn’t run it that well. Niners have the fastest defense the Chiefs have played all year, particularly the LBs and Safeties. Chiefs have a lot of skill position speed. Niners are no slouches and have fastest TE and FB in NFL.
Should be a great match-up.

The oddsmakers don’t seem to agree with you; KC opened as one point favorites.

Really. I figured the Niners were a lock for a 3 point fave. . . .A lot of sentiment for KC though, 50 years for the Chiefs and heartbreak for Reid. Niners D looks really tough, their O-line is killing it.

I think among the pundits, the AFC was considered stronger overall than the NFC. Balt and KC have been thought of as the top 2 teams most the second half.
I think there are a lot of parallels between this SB and the 85 49er Miami Super Bowl. You have a great offense in Kansas City going up against a great defense in San Francisco. And a very good offense in San Francisco going up against a very mediocre offense in Kansas City. In ‘85 I absolutely knew the 49ers were going to win that game easily because I felt, correctly, that the defense could at least slow down Miami and that Miami would be essentially defenseless against the 49ers. (BTW - Miami was favored in that game. EDIT- wrong. Niners were 3 pt favorites. My memory failed me. Again). But there is one brobdingnagian difference – Jimmy Garoppolo is no Joe Montana. And Mahomes is probably better than Marino.
There is a big QB gap. Otherwise, I think SF is the better team. Garrapolo has not been asked to do much in the playoffs. I think he will have to do more if SF is to beat KC. He’s capable of doing so. Should be a fun game.

Herb Caen had a story after that 1985 super bowl about a group of Miami fans who were staying in Marin County and driving south in a car festooned with Miami fan gear. When they stopped at the toll plaza at the Golden Gate Bridge, the toll-taker said their toll had been paid by the car in front of them. “Really?” They said. Yes, the toll-taker said. “The people in front of you also said to tell you that this is the nicest thing that’s going to happen to you all day.” Turned out to be quite true.
It’s also a sobering reminder of how special these events are. In 1985, after the SB, the consensus was that Dan Marino would ultimately plan in other SBs and win at least some of them. He never played in another.

Do a large number people on this board think that KC's offense is even close to being mediocre? I am shocked if that's so. I admit I would have thought 49ers would be favored, but because of SF's defense. I think that just on the basis of Mahomes alone that KC has an edge on offense. I guess I'll need to re-evaluate.

I believe that's a typo. Probably meant mediocre DEfense.
