Since we played WSU, they have beaten Washington and Cal twice, but lost to both Arizona and both SoCal schools. Friday night Hristova scored 32 and Molina scored 21 in a 92 point outpouring to beat Cal. WSU certainly has proven that it is a better team than Washington this season, and their two best players seem to be peaking just as we will face them. They will certainly want to make history by beating us for the first time ever, on their home court, and we cannot afford to have a lackadaisical performance given how thin we have become. One of those games where we "should" win, but the players have to play well for the "should" to become reality.
One thing we will have going for us: this is a home game for Lexie and Lacie, and Lexie especially is motivated after being out for this game a year ago.
Overview:
We are now 67-0 in games against Washington State. Prechtel had a career day to give us a third scorer, and that combined with a strong defensive effort was enough to bury Washington State in the first quarter.
Flow of the game:
We led wire to wire, but the 23-8 first quarter set the tone. WSU actually kept up with us in quarters 2 and 4, but there was a feeling of inevitability about the game as Tara subbed liberally in the fourth.
Performances:
We shot 45% and held WSU to 31%. Hristova had 15 points but mostly in the 4th quarter after the game was well in hand. The biggest contrast is that we were 8/23 from three point range, while WSU was 0/15.
Prechtel gets the game ball this time, with 19 points and 14 rebounds in 20 minutes of play.
Williams had 17 points, 5 assists, and 0 turnovers in one of her better performances.
Lexie just missed a double double with 16 points and 9 rebounds, but she and Lacie also deserve credit for guarding Hristova so effectively in the first few quarters.
Fingall had 9 points and 8 rebounds in 27 minutes.
Lacie led in +/-, chiefly because of her defense.
The most heart warming story is Brewer coming in for the last couple of minutes and making her first basket of the year. That basket is symbolic of a long trip back.
Conclusion:
Prechtel's development could not come at a better time for us. She is now our hope to give us the offensive versatility to take on our very demanding schedule ahead. We have 8 games left in league regular season which I like to think of in sets of four. We have the SoCal schools at home next weekend and then we go to altitude. All four of those games will be challenging, with UCLA at Maples and us at Colorado being particularly dangerous. But after that we close it out with the two Oregons at home and the two Arizona schools on the road. All 4 of those will be highly dangerous. We will need Prechtel, Williams, and Lexie to be healthy and at their best .

I sure hope so. Lexie also missed what was truly a homecoming game for them @ Gonzaga last year, and as you surely (painfully) recall, we lost that one down the stretch. Here's hoping both Hulls don't have a "lull" and are en fuego tomorrow. I agree that this is probably WSU's best chance to pop the cherry in at least the next 2-3 seasons, so they should be highly, highly motivated. Working in our favor is the likelihood that they have a sub-1000 crowd in attendance, so at least it's not one of the more inhospitable away environments...

SOLUTION TO PAC 12 NET BROADCAST BREAKING UP -- Yesterday, I tried to watch the men's game vs Oregon on the Pac-12 net. Horrible breaking up reception on the HD channel, but when I changed to the non-HD channel on Comcast, it was just fine. Right now, trying to watch UCLA vs ASU on Pac 12 net HD channel (823 in SF), same problem and non-HD channel is fine. I suspect this will persist for the Stanford vs WSU game this afternoon. If it does and you have comcast, watch the game on the non-HD channel (434). Problem seems to be a strictly Pac 12 HD problem -- not Comcast -- since all channels above and below are fine and the same problem crops up when I try watching on my computer.
Well, scratch a lot of that -- except if this problem persists, go to the non-HD. But as for today's game, it's not on Pac 12 net, only on Pac 12 Bay Area, and that's only on the non-HD broadcast channel (433 -- which is Pac 12 BA). But you will have problems with the streaming version breaking up.

Is “Big Red” a legit nickname for Prechtel? I think I’ve heard it used once on TV.

Great start! Lexie must have been reading this board. She is driving into the paint and hitting 6-8 foot jumpers when nothing else is open. And everyone seems to be hitting their threes, including Prechtel. We lead 19-4 after the first 6 minutes.

That foul on Prechtel was cheap-ass.

I’m amazed people have missed Lexie’s drives all year :)

And she's so lucky that the rebounds come to where she's waiting!
Looks like that virus spread from Washington to Washington State.

23-8 after the first quarter, and it could have been more if we had not missed two easy layups.
Good to see Lacie playing. Announcers said she had been nursing a sore ankle but it did not show in her defense on Bobbye Buckets.
And nice to see Prechtel playing well. Tara is already going to the bench and resting people.
Lexie is being more aggressive and driving. Also good.
And Williams started 3/6. Nice to see her start hot offensively.
Announcers said that Tara thinks Prechtel is our best opportunity for growth. Reading between the lines, that could mean that Prechtel is still improving (wow!) but that she is going to have to carry a load since the wounded may not heal very soon.

In a football game, WSU would have been called for a chop block.
But I'm glad the player is back on the bench

Still, getting mauled out there without the whistles to show for it.

Prechtel's 2nd foul was called because she had her foot on the ground and the Molina stepped into it and tripped. (That's not a foul per the rules.)
Good hustle by Fingall.
These officials have switched into the support-the-weaker-team mode.
Gads. Bad calls abound! In particular, they've called moving screens on 3 inches of movement and a brush touch.
Jerome gets called for a foul because the opponent's arm is across her chest for 3 seconds. 1:37 Q2.
And it isn't just the change in the flow from the fouls -- as the announcer said, the foul calls make Stanford stop guarding as closely.

42-27 at the half. We got sloppy at the end or it would have been a lot more. We are 7/12 from three point range. Lexie is doing very well with 14 already, in front of family and friends.
Interview of WSU coach at the half, "How do you stop them," "I don't know."
As dominant as we were, it is only a 15 point lead. We need to sustain this level of play for a while longer.
Stats are surprising quite close, except we are shooting 47% and they are shooting 35%. Hristova is 1/7 which is Lexie and Lacie's doing.
Using the Livestats shot chart is revealing. We have made 4 layups but missed 10 layups. We are making treys at a much higher rate than we are making our layups! That is a bad ratio. On account of this, WSU actually leads points in the paint 22-12. It is all our treys and jumpshots that have given us the lead. WSU does not have a trey yet, going 0/4.

Fouls called on Stanford: 8
Fouls called on WSU: 3
The refs should have called an intentional foul on WSU 55 for swinging the elbows and hitting Lexie high. But, it was the weaker team commiting that so, it was a foul called against Lexie.

No problems here (downtown Palo Alto). Maybe it was a Comcast issue at your home or neighborhood.

While I often disagree with you MT on fouls that last on Lexie was beyond crazy.

Lexie fouls #55's swinging elbow by having her chest in the way.
