On P12N. Oregon favored by 1.5, which honestly seems low.

Did our student section seriously just start an "Overrated" chant less than 4 minutes into the game? Get with it and STFU.

First game at Maples this year - Slightly impressed. Decent crowd, good Stanford D, long, fast team.
Got any questions?

It's ok, they were referring to the home team.

They need muscle inside. Very passive interior defense. They could use a Revelli or a Mad Dog.

We're maddingly too inconsistent. Terry and Jones' 3 point shots seem to have stopped dropping. Too many turnovers. No go-to player. Poor FT shooting from Davis and Wills. Long stretches of scoring droughts. Losing big leads.
Yet, I can't help but be a Stanford fanatic despite all this.

We won this game with our defense. That might be a cliche this season but today it was true. Our rumble defense swarmed Payton Pritchard like ornery hornets, and thus utterly mangled the Duck offense in the second half. Then a timely offensive surge seized control of the game in a flash.
It looks like we're just going to have to accept that the rest of this season will be a grab bag. Whoever we're playing or where, flip a coin, and whether we win or lose depends on how it lands.

What a sorely needed win to snap a horrible losing streak. The team is now 16-5, 5-3 in P12 play.
Last year's team, on paper a much more talented one, went 15-16 and 8-10 in P12 play. We've passed last year's win total with 10 games - 1/3 of the season - yet to play.

Agree. Defense has been good the whole season. The "coin flip" is how our team looks on offense on any given night.

The defense in the second half was p-h-e-n-o-m-e-n-a-l.
Also, stats say the team shot 80% from the charity stripe.

So happy for the team. They really needed this win. Joyful and thankful. All right now, baby.

Yep. Even more impressive: Bryce Wills was 4 for 4 from the line. He raised his season FT% by 5% today.

No. The team has to make sure that it "rides" primarily on DaSilva. The staff has to make sure that they challenge DaSilva to look shoot first, and don't let him become passive. If they double on him, he's a good passer and the offense has enough cutters that he can find another open player.

Excellent point re DaSilva. He so easily becomes passive...which is why we only see "good DaSilva" in about half of Stanford's games...and a shadow of that figure the rest of the time. I hope Haase can find a way to light a fire up his you-know-what because when he plays well, we are tough to beat. Not only with his scoring, but it opens up looks for others.

So heartening to see the team shake off the last 3 games.
Stat of the day: Jones and Davis combined to go 2-15 with 6 points. If you'd told me that ahead of the game, I would've bet a lot of money on a 15+ point loss. On offense, it seems like we're playing a man short since Davis has been wearing the mask--his shot has been off. Hopefully the mask comes off soon.
High elevation road trip coming up will be a big challenge for a team that does not go deep. I still hate the fact that we added two 5,000+ foot teams to the league. That's a giant disadvantage for the other 10 teams.
ETA: This was Oregon's worst offensive performance of the year by points per possession. Can't say enough good things about the defense today and all season.

Went to the game. First of the year. Stanford played a very solid final 15 minutes. DeSilva obviously had a monster game. I thought Wills played very well. Gonna be interested to watch him develop. Athletic and long is a good combo. Terry was atrocious for 33 minutes. Then in the last seven he sucks it up, hits two big threes, beats a guy off the dribble down the lane and dishes for a layup. Showed a lot. It’s not easy to turn your game around in the last few minutes. ( I know this is not saying anything you don’t already know – but he desperately needs to spend the off-season in the weight room and gain some strength.)
Big contribution from Kasunis. He’s not gonna win any athletic competitions. But you contribute by doing what you can. And he did. Got a couple of offensive rebounds hustled his ass off made some key plays including keeping a possession alive with a hustle scramble that led to the ball going on off a Duck. Stanford hit a three after the inbound, cut deficit to 6. brobdingnagian play it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet but happened at a time Stanford was leaking oil; at that point down nine could’ve gone down double digits then who knows what happens.
Davis and Wills did a terrific job on Pritchard. Made him work for everything he got.
If Stanford finished a little better they would’ve won that game by 20 they had a lot of shots at the rim but they just couldn’t get them to drop. But I’m not sure I can remember when Stanford had three guys that could beat people off the dribble fairly consistently. That’s nice.
Last but not least – at halftime Oregon had a 24 to 12 rebounding edge. Absolutely killed Stanford on the glass in the first half. In the second half that was flip-flopped – I think Stanford either won the overall rebounding battle or broke even. That was big

Very on brand for Stanford to lose against Oregon State and and then beat Oregon. I was kind of expecting this after the Ducks barely escaped Cal.
All in all, this shows every PAC-12 team can beat any other. Don’t know if this is good or bad, but...
The conference’s “marquee win” this year was Oregon at Michigan. That win isn’t looking very impressive at all on Feb.1 as it appeared to be in December.
