Stanford baseball - Mick - 03-07-2020

Currently 4-9, Stanford has won three of its last four as it continues its series with the Jayhawks today.  Had a nice win over #16 Michigan.  Good news is all four wins have come at home, and ten of the next eleven games are at Stanford, with Kansas, Arizona, Sac State and Cal as opponents.

Batting needs to come around.  Team BA of .195, 131 K's in 436 ABs, just one triple and two HRs on the season, just 31 RBIs.  Not good.

Pitching is solid with 2.88 ERA.

Fielding needs to improve.  26 errors, versus 16 for opponents.  .950 fielding percentage.

Stanford is playing the Wildcats (Kansas State) not the Jayhawks this weekend.

The Cardinal lost game 1 last night 6-1. Only one of K State's runs was earned. Stanford committed 4 errors and scored its only run on a wild pitch.

Sigh.

Game supposedly on here.

RE: Stanford baseball - BobK - 03-07-2020

Playing two today. Stanford wins the first 7-5

RE: Stanford baseball - Mick - 03-08-2020

Lost the second to the Wildcats, 11-1.  Cardinal now 5-10.

Madera86 - Madera86 - 03-08-2020

Maybe I missed it, but has Alex Williams pitched in this series? I’m almost afraid to ask.

RE: Stanford baseball - BobK - 03-08-2020

No on Williams

RE: Stanford baseball - JJJ - 03-08-2020

We’re down to our last 5 outs and losing 5-1.

RE: Stanford baseball - Mick - 03-09-2020

Lost 6-1 to K State.  Now 5-11 on the season.

Next up are the Cal Bears at Sunken Diamond, 12 days away.  Cal has a series at Washington State between now and then.  Cal is 4-11, with an early season 8-4 loss against Stanford.  Hope it's predictive.  Cal's season team batting average is .219, OPS is .600, so their offense is anemic.  Team ERA is 4.68.

RE: Stanford baseball - Papa John - 03-09-2020

Unfortunately, Mick, Cal beat Stanford 8-4 on February 25.

The current winning percentage is .313. The season is less than 1/3 over, but the last time Stanford finished below .500 W/L was 2015 (24-32 or .429). The last time Stanford finished at or below .313 was...1903, when Stanford finished the season at 5-11.

RE: Stanford baseball - Papa John - 03-25-2020

So Stanford baseball finishes the season at 5-11 (.313), the worst season since 1936 (my previous post was wrong), when Stanford finished 8-20 (.286).

I have no idea what to expect in 2021, assuming there is a 2021 season. Per perfectgame.org, Stanford has the #15 recruiting class coming in this fall. Out of 11 recruits, 3 are top 100.  But note that Stanford has the fewest incoming commits in the top 40. If one goes by average player rating, Stanford ranks #2, behind Vanderbilt.

RE: Stanford baseball - BobK - 03-25-2020

Those aren’t incoming because some will go pro. It’s simply commits and signees

However it’s a very good class if Bruno abd Bowser both come

RE: Stanford baseball - Papa John - 03-25-2020

But the fact that there will not be much of a minor/major league baseball season--if at all--this summer might convince them to attend Stanford, right?

RE: Stanford baseball - Phogge - 03-26-2020

If there is a June draft and money is offered to the high picks I would expect most to sign.

Funny how “if” has become the keyword in our language.
