what happens to ESPN - mbdude - 03-12-2020
ESPN will have virtually no sporting events of interest to cover, or subjects of interest after a week. Do the talk shows and their casts just go away. Then there are the cameramen, producers, etc

They can visit the closed Disneyland parks and sail on the empty Disney ships. Also show lots of Disney movies.

ESPN Talking Heads will debate greatest all-time teams, etc.
ESPN2 becomes ESPNClassic
ESPNClassic2
ESPNClassic3
etc.
Lots and lots and lots of rebroadcasts.
Who knows, maybe some obscure and poorly attended sports will get some air time and gain in popularity. I'm sensing a big uptick in Darts, Curling, Badminton, and the like. And I suspect the sports with limited competitor contact/interaction may be the first ones "back," and thus will have some time in the sun, too.
We shall see . . .

NFL Draft
NBA's MVP
Those discussions likely will continue. They generally don't spend a lot of time talking about actual sporting events. My guess is they will talk about Pro Days a lot as I would guess those will continue.
Their TV personalities don't know a lot about golf, but it appears golf will continue as it doesn't really require spectators.
Then for other live sports they can go to their roots.
Billards
Bowling
Swamp Races
Fishing
Seriously, it did seem like many of the ESPN types understood they might not be on air next week.
A lot of people resisted cord cutting for live sport access. DirecTV and cable companies are going to have a tough time.
Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime and the others will likely have record breaking financials in the coming months.

I’m waiting to see the profile of the winner of the solitaire contest. Will he or she turn one card at a time or three? The suspense is mounting, the tension is high. And even if UCON only finishes fifth, I suspect there will be a never ending spate of videos featuring them as they turn their cards over!

I had added Sling Orange this spring for the extra sports it gave me. I've dropped it. Maybe I'll consider dropping Sling Blue as well. The PAC-12 channels were the reason to go there.

We figured it was cheaper to just pay to buy individual individual episodes of shows we watch live (which, right now is just Better Call Saul). Also, since our entertainment spending outside the house has dropped to zero, we don't mind spending extra on streaming rentals.
Also, if the Pac-12 was losing money before, what's going to happen now?

I was thinking about this yesterday.
What about The Athletic? At least ESPN can put people in a studio and talk. They can do remote interviews of people on Skype and phone, but The Athletic is mostly about writing stories that give insight into the games being played.

Haven't seen Bill on the tube for quite a while but I certainly remember him as a guy who had an opinion on everything and loved to express it.
I was in the Navy in San Diego when he was a HS phenom and a freshman at UCLA. He was described as somewhat of a shy, not particularly worldly guy. Things have definitely changed.
