So much for the redeeming power of sports - Redrum - 06-09-2010

Or, at least,  the near-bottomless well of patience needed to turn hoods into some approximation of "decent citizens".

Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli\'s experiment in redemption has ended.  Already on a year\'s suspension from the team, he has now been kicked off the team for a drug possession arrest.  This, on top of the computer theft conviction earlier this year.  Masoli wasn\'t a thug, just a common, stupid kid with criminal tendencies.  Now the only sports award that awaits him is the coveted  Lawrence Phillips Recidivism Award.

Add:  I was wrong. Masoli was a thug.  He got kicked out of his high school for joining some of his buddies in a group assault on a kid. But he was misunderstood, just the kind of kid the Oregon athletic dept. can help.

If I ever had respect for the character of the Ducks\' football program, it\'s gone now.  And how posh did Phil Knight make their locker rooms?

Note that the qb heir apparent was also in the car....so he probably has some good habits now too.
