WBB - acerep - 03-20-2020

The first part of a two-part season retrospective has been posted on the Fast Break Club site, www.stanfordfbc.org.

Thanks!

I just saw the email that the team awards banquet is officially cancelled. Not a surprise of course. It's great to have the FBC retrospective to fill some of that void.

I'll miss the highlight reel. Though this year feels sort of like the highlight reel where Nicole Powell took the 3 (and was fouled, but no call) and the ball nearly went in (and the reel stopped as the ball arced).

Greatly miss watching the other conference teams clobber the other teams in the tourney.

RE: WBB - CompSci87 - 03-21-2020

ESPN2 has a rerun of the Jamfest that Fran Belibi won, on right now. Already 3/4 over as I post, though.

Coming up on ESPNU at 1:30, a rerun of Stanford with Candice Wiggins falling to Tennessee with Candace Parker in the 2008 tournament final.

Great!  I’ll watch that right after I get done dragging my fingernails down a chalkboard for an hour or two.

Yeah. I watched about a quarter. I'd forgotten just how badly it went.

Being there was worse. But then two days before we beat UConn

RE: WBB - CompSci87 - 03-21-2020

The A&M 2011 game is being replayed too. That one was close, at least, but no way I could watch it without going ballistic about the officiating all over again. And yes we could have won anyway with just one less mistake down the stretch.

RE: WBB - BobK - 03-21-2020

Losing pohlen late with her ankle was the killer

What?  Is this Torture the Cardinal day?

I'll watch when they get around to the 1990 or 1992 Finals...

I have seen that semifinal game against UConn replayed.  I think it was our greatest game in that season.  The passing was absolutely tremendous to set up Wiggins for the two daggers from the corner.

RE: WBB - 2006alum - 03-21-2020

This thread is giving me Post Traumatic Sportsfan Disorder. How about our 2010 or 2014 home upsets of UConn to break their undefeated streaks, or our PAC-12 Championship tournament upset of Oregon last season? Or our clutch wins vs. Baylor the past few seasons?

It's frustrating to me how often we seem to come up short in the biggest games that have the largest TV audiences -- those are, of course, the same games that are getting replayed over and over right now.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.  Laying an egg on national TV is so painful.

If I want to go to a happy place I'll just conjure up Jeanette Pohlen, coast to coast in 4.3 seconds.

I was there for that one.  Craziest end of a game ever for an important game.  We were miserable, thought we were dead.  When Jeanette made that last basket we were so stunned and thrilled my friend next to me picked me up in a bear hug so tight it almost broke my ribs.

Ah, that Pohlen play against Xavier in the regional final -- so many of us were there. And it made ESPN's top ten plays of the day as #1. To that, I'll add the end of this year's Colorado game and Kiana's 2 threes. I've got that one on my DVD and can watch it again and again.

RE: WBB - BobK - 03-22-2020

I’m in the school that says not playing in the big Game on tv far more painful

RE: WBB - CompSci87 - 03-22-2020

Here's a positive memory for Stanford fans. This is the whole game, but for some reason the share link that YouTube gave me takes you to the end.
