Definitely Dawn Staley. What about Kim Mulkey - did she ever win a gold with the US?

Caroyln Peck?

yes to dawn staley

yes to kim mulkey. gold at the 84 olympics. learning that she was a star player (louisiana tech in the 80s) moves me to give a bit more leeway to her "exuberance" on the bench.

no (though almost) to carolyn peck. championship as an ncaa coach. excellent player, but not quite usa team caliber.

can't find a swopes who was a star player and coach. not sure who you mean.

at least one more to go. not obscure but still surprised me.

I believe the third guard/player/coach who reached the summit of her profession also changed her last name from Head to Summitt, and went by Pat.

Cheryl Swopes one of the greatest players ever

Better known by the correct spelling Sheryl Swoopes.  (But pronounced like "swopes".) That's why Cardinal77 couldn't find her.

She has been a head coach (at Loyola Chicago) and is currently an assistant at Texas Tech, but hasn't won an NCAA championship as coach.

yes, pat summitt! i had no idea til this past week.

another top coach who, like carolyn peck, was a great college player, but not quite usa-team caliber, is ann o'brien. you may know her as muffet McGraw.
