You let a bad team hang around and it turns into an upset!

After duke's humiliating loss, they have burning fire and hyper creative post calling. After stanford's anesthetizing win, we are caught looking far less than top 10.

As I type, we get two brobdingnagian sacks after the onside kick. Whew...

Glass is a few drops away from full, but no need to worry.  Certainly no need to curse!

The D has not allowed a TD yet this year.

Or is this a reference to a different Stanford favorite?  Is WVB playing poorly. ;)

Wow that QB is good.  ;)

This is on the defense so far.  Lot of missed tackles.

Actually, David's being out coached. This coach has a lot up his sleeve. It'd be great to see what he could do with good players. If it weren't for their kicker, we'd be losing this game.

Luck hasn't looked terrible, he's got 185 yards in one half, and a great drive at the end there. It was a tip ball pick.

Of course if Duke weren't a terrible team we'd be in trouble, don't think Luck is the reason though. Defense and run game need to step up.

At the half, Stanford trails in time of possession.

By the way, I am appreciative of the skill of the kzsu announcers. They used to be not very good a few decades ago.  These guys are giving good perspectives. and they are putting this in the right light:  what does this performance mean for how we will play against Arizona?

Re: looks like a certain QB's been reading his press clippings - yvonne - 09-10-2011

Maybe that's just it. Maybe they were looking ahead to Arizona, and thinking these guys would be like San Jose State. These guys are in a real conference, and they probably want to beat that other academic football school they've been compared unfavorably with in their own school paper.

This game could do for them what the USC game did for us in 2008.

We haven't looked particularly good, and Luck is having a bit of an off day (at least for him). He's getting a little more pressure than he's used to, and that may be affecting him.

Hard to say that the defense needs to step, up, though, when they have 0 offensive points.

Our expectations are so high we expect the team to look like a juggernaut every quarter every game.

We'll see how the second half goes.

Re: looks like a certain QB's been reading his press clippings - Farm93 - 09-10-2011

Relax.

UofA did not look that great.  I doubt the team is looking ahead.  This is life as a top 10 team.  Some schools will fall apart before the kickoff.  Others will bring their A+ game for a half and then wilt.  Only the lucky few play it close the whole game, and very few pull off the upset.  And at this point it is clear that Stanford will be favored in every single game they play until they get upset.  So either an upset will happen or they will be BCS champs.

So there is no real need to get frustrated by the emerging upset because that is the ONLY way this team will lose.

As far as this game goes, I suspect the final score will be 38-14 or 38-7.

Defense has not allowed a single point, and the team is up by 17.  Yet the worries remain.  This IS how top 5 teams play.

Re: looks like a certain QB's been reading his press clippings - Farm93 - 09-10-2011

Ooops didn't count on a missed PAT.  Yet the TD was quicker than I thought.  Let's say the team gets to 44 and that Luck plays only one series in the 4th quarter.

Luck is not winning the Voldemort with this play, but the best path to winning the trophy these days is for the team to keeping winning.  And with this SUPER D on the scene all will be fine.

Best QB in the country
Best TEs in the country
Best RBs in the Pac-12
Best D in the Pac-12

This is not the Stanford of old where the QB needs a miracle game to pull off a miracle upset.  This team needs to misfire on a lot of fronts on the same day.  It could happen, but not today.

Re: looks like a certain QB's been reading his press clippings - oman - 09-10-2011

I kind of wanted us to be running a few more running plays but at the end of the day coach may be bringing this along right at the pace he needs to.

Re: looks like a certain QB's been reading his press clippings - estephan500 - 09-10-2011

These confident "relax" posts come when the game has shaped up better. To understand the posts above, cast your mind back to the porous defense, overthrown balls, interception, and falling prey to fake punts and onside kicks. When we were stinking it up against Duke, and would have been losing if their kicker wasn't keeling over.

Re: looks like a certain QB's been reading his press clippings - Farm93 - 09-10-2011

I was in the "Relax" camp when it was still close right after the INT, but I appreciate that even Yvonne is not cursing at our prized QB anymore.

Nottingham is in.  Right on schedule.  Does the team get to 50 today?

Love that our fans need each and every one of the 60 minutes of each game to go well for them to maintain their faith.  Lucky you're not Ohio State fans or something (well... we're all luckly we're not Ohio State fans, for a number of reasons!).  Go Stanford - keep the faith and enjoy the season!  :)

Re: looks like a certain QB's been reading his press clippings - estephan500 - 09-10-2011

At the height of my angst, I never thought we were going to lose this game... That wasn't the worry. Made me think of oregon's "phone it in until the second half" method. And made next week's game more worrisome.

Re: looks like a certain QB's been reading his press clippings - Farm93 - 09-10-2011

The running game struggles are a bit troubling.  But press clippings or no, I know Stanford has the best QB in the land.  I would not trade him for any QB in the NCAA.

And at the moment, I think it does not matter how the "O" plays because the "D" seems more than capable of getting the team 8 wins.

What a luxury and what a ride.  Every once and a while I remind myself that 2006 was not that long ago.
