with Ray Ratto not far behind. The most interesting thing on Ratto's ballot to me was his placement of Washington compared to Oregon.

I wonder if Ray Ratto is willing to put some money on the line in the UW-UO game. He can have the Huskeis, I get the Ducks.

I could use someone who is willing to help pay for my daughter's college tuition bill.

While Ratto might be less extreme than Wilner, Washington at #14 is probably the dumbest vote in either ballot.

Talk about extreme... - Nan3cy - 09-12-2011

Just what in the world is the Colley Matrix Top 50???  ???

Someone unfamiliar with Wilner might assume that part of his "extreme" ranking would be ranking Stanford at #2.  He is a local guy and Stanford got placed at #2 by some.  But no!!! Wilner's Stanford ranking was actually below the average.

Wilner's lack of Stanford love extended to his picks versus the spread as he was bold enough to predict that Stanford would not cover the spread in the games on the first two weeks.

FWIW - SJSU did look pretty solid against UCLA, so Wilner's SJSU love may not have been completely misplaced.

I think UCLA is just that bad.  We'll see what happens when they play Texas next weekend...

Re: Guess who was the most extreme AP voter this week - yvonne - 09-12-2011

Wilner tends to discount Pac-1x teams aside from USC. After Oregon's loss, he taunted Pac-12 fans with "SEC is 'big boy football.'" I don't know whether that's his being contrary for the sake of drawing readership as Terry suggested -- that part of his blog always draws plenty of comments -- or if he really does think western teams are bad. He also really seems to like the Big 12 for some reason.

Does anyone know where he's from?

Nope.  Men are from Mars; Wilner is from Uranus.

Cheers,
Pete F.

Isn't he a Yalie? (Any remarks about New Haven being close to Uranus are -- from what I've heard -- probably justified.)

Re: Guess who was the most extreme AP voter this week - terry - 09-15-2011

I believe Wilner went to Penn.

Re: Guess who was the most extreme AP voter this week - Nan3cy - 09-15-2011

Yeah, Penn. Same league as Yale, different armpit...
