Shelter in place certainly working for other infectious diseases - akiddoc - 04-22-2020

Since the shelter in place recommendations started in California, other infectious diseases certainly seem to have ground to a halt.

Influenza hospitalizations have ground to a halt.

We stopped all flu testing at both of my jobs per state recommendations. In the Sutter system positive flu tests were running at 2% this month, which is less than the expected false positive rate.

I was called into work in the respiratory clinic today because 2 of my coworkers have presumed Covid-19. All sick kids in the East Bay are being funneled into that clinic. No one showed up to be seen on the Pediatric side all day. We received 11 phone calls about children with very mild illness. Normally we would have seen close to 100 patients with febrile illnesses in other years on an April weekday in our East Bay region.
