Tyrell Terry going to the NBA - hardforcard8 - 04-26-2020

Hey guys,
I'm new here! Looking forward to talking with you all. Joined because I stumbled upon an article which discussed Terry's NBA prospects and I found it interesting. Want to know what you guys think!

There's a threat on this topic https://thecardboard.org/board/showthread.php?tid=19334

Most people here don't think he's ready for the NBA. Doesn't mean he'll come back, but I think he could significantly improve his draft position with another year of college ball.

Just read a mock draft and Terry not in the top 40.

There is clearly a difference of opinion. I saw on theringer.com that he's rated as a top 10 prospect.

That guy has Obi Toppin #11. I'm not taking it seriously.

RE: Tyrell Terry going to the NBA - Papa John - 04-27-2020

Here's what I found through the Google:
nbcsports.com (Apri 24)--Obi Toppin #4, Tyrell Terry not listed
nbadraft.net (April 20)--Obi #2, Tyrell #33
nbadraftroom.com (April 19, 1st round only)--Obi #3, Tyrell not listed
tankathon.com (April 18)--Obi #3, Tyrell #30
bleacherreport.com (March 19, 1st round only)--Obi #4, Tyrell not listed
espn.com (?)--Obi #7, Tyrell #62
draftsite.com (April 25)--Obi #3, Tyrell #29
slamonline.com (April 17)--Obi #4, Tyrell #29
mynbadraft.com (April 14)--Obi #8, Tyrell not listed
cbssports.com (April 9, 1st round only)--Obi #10, Tyrell not listed
sports.yahoo.com (April 24, top 40 only)--Obi #4, Tyrell not listed

Have to get back to work, but the best I found was TT as a very late first-rounder, not selected (obviously) at worst.

I expect they will extend the deadline to withdraw. The whole point of their system was to be able to go to the combine and then decide whether to stay in the draft or withdraw

What I heard a month ago was that Tyrell was ranked the #20 freshman in the total pool of draft-eligible players...not even overall, just the freshmen.  I haven't seen him in the top 100 lists yet.

I think it's fine that he explores and gets feedback, but this is about the same as a Quenton Meeks-level too-early decision imo.  (This is strictly from a fan perspective...I don't know if Meeks had other extenuating circumstances or whether he felt like he had all the tape he was ever going to need.)

I wish/hope the next two classes also stay for a while, because that would really be something special.

For the record, at the time Meeks was nearly universally recognized as a mid-round pick and I'm sure he was advised as much. All the mock drafts I read had him going anywhere from late 2nd-5th round. Also, Paulson Adebo was going to take his job. Him leaving early made sense, and part of me thinks you're making the decision that it was "too early" in hindsight.

There are always a couple prospects a year that shock people by going undrafted, and Meeks certainly fell into that category. An example from this draft was Washington OT Trey Adams, who was talked about as a first rounder at this time last year.

The early draft decision that legitimately puzzled me was Nate Herbig, though I believe there were extenuating circumstances there.

You believe right Samuel.

That's a diplomatic way of putting it.

Not puzzling in hindsight, and yes, very diplomatically put...unfortunately for the team.

It only becomes a Meeks-type decision if he stays in the draft. Terry can go to the combine, see how he really stacks up against other players considering the draft, and make a more informed decision. I wish the NFL would go this route

RE: Tyrell Terry going to the NBA - fullmetal - 05-03-2020

I'm all in favor of more experience and player development, but does he have to put out a release wildly gesticulating at the possibility of leaving?  (Especially if he knows he's likely to come back...)

There's no other way to do it, I suppose.  No one's going to take you seriously if you suddenly declare intent to enter the combine/draft and not put out a statement saying you're pursuing the next level.

Interesting look at the work Terry has been putting in during COVID. I haven't been following MBB that closely the last few years, but I wish him good luck and success.
