OT: Duke allegedly paid Zion Williamson -

A lawsuit is asking him to admit it. It would really break my heart if the NCAA came down on Duke basketball for recruiting violations.

EDIT: I should probably be a bit clearer; Zion Williamson was allegedly paid "on behalf of Duke"

Shocker.

So does Zion have to answer the question? I'm not a lawyer, but it seems to me it would be, Duke aside, in ZW's own personal interest to not say a word. Unless he is legally obligated to do so, of course.

Coach K will find a way to wriggle out of it. A slimy snake oil salesman who could probably make a fortune selling used cars.

I’ve always operated on the assumption Zion was paid to attend Duke.
My shock is not the accusation, but that there is an effort to reveal if it in fact happened.

This is why one-and-dones are stupid. Just let them go to the NBA already.

ESPN report said his parents are the subject of the lawsuit and they would have to give depositions answering questions about what they received from whom. Sounds like shades of the Reggie Bush investigation. A party who thought they were representing Zion got jilted and is spilling the beans.
Will be awesome to see Jay Bilas and Jay Williams having to break ranks with K and call him out for allowing it to all happen. Because the lawsuit alleges Duke knew all about the payoffs.

Thanks for the clarification, OutsiderFan. I don't usually enjoy wallowing in the misery of others, but I've not liked Duke basketball ever since Christian Laettner stomped on the fallen Kentucky player Timberlake and didn't get ejected--all before sinking that game-winning shot. And then Grayson Allen comes along and makes Laettner look like an angel in comparison.
It's weird, though, because I have a lot of respect for Duke University in general, I just don't like their MBB team. One of my favorite Stanford MBB moments is Stanford overcoming a 15-point second half deficit and Casey Jacobsen hitting the game-winning shot vs #1 Duke in 2000. I remember watching that game on TV and being emotionally exhausted for at least 24 hours following.
Come to think of it, we don't talk about that game enough, IMO.

According to sports-reference.com, that 2000-2001 Duke team had five players go to the NBA: Jay Williams, Shane Battier, Mike Dunleavy, Carlos Boozer and Chris Duhon. Those five plus Casey Sanders were High School Parade All-Americans. Duke finished the season 35-4, averaged 91 points for and 71 points against, won the ACC regular season and ACC tournament, and won every NCAA tournament game by double digits, including the national championship game over Arizona.
And Stanford beat them 84-83 on December 21, 2000. And Tiger Woods was there.
So this has to be in the top 10 all-time wins in Stanford MBB history, right? I know the comeback versus URI in the NCAA tournament was bigger because it put us in the Final Four, and Robinson's heave kept us undefeated and at #1, but how many times has Stanford MBB defeated a #1-ranked team?

Do I recall correctly that both Boozer and Battier were Stanford recruits at one time?

On a related note, I'm pretty sure Casey Jacobsen chose Stanford over Duke. Any others on the 2000-01 Stanford MBB team who were recruited by Coach K?

The way I remember hearing it is that Duke and Stanford were both recruiting CJ and Mike Dunleavy Jr, the top 2 West Coast prospects at the SG/SF positions, heavily. Dunleavy committed to Duke first, filling that need, and CJ committed to Stanford shortly thereafter.
Sadly, Stanford's storied 2000-01 season ended with a 87-73 loss to Maryland in the Western Regional finals. The Terps were led by Juan Dixon and sophomore PF Lonny Baxter, who was named the Regional's MOP. This was made more painful by the fact that Mike Montgomery had highly coveted Baxter, a MD native, as a recruiting target out of high school.
BTW - I was at that Newell Classic game too - good times!!!

I know there were four, but my aging mind can't remember one of them. The unifying factor in all of the four victories was, of course, having Monty at the helm.
The first was at Maples. Feb 4, 1988, vs Arizona. The court was stormed post-game, as you can imagine. Todd Lichti was good for 23 points, Howard Wright had 22, and final score was 82-74.
The second was the aforementioned game vs. Duke at the Oakland Arena 12/2000.
The final was at the Wooden Classic, Dec 6, 2003, at the Pond in Anaheim. Stanford took down #1 Kansas. What I distinctly recall after that victory was the confidence of the team - rather than jumping up and high-fiving each other as the buzzer sounded, they calmly lined up to shake their opponent's hands. Those were the days.
I'm pretty sure there was a fourth game somewhere during the Monty era where a #1 opponent was upset. Somebody help me out.
