Quote:“Stanford’s not a place you just go through, do a good job and jump out of here,” Shaw said. “That’s not the way I see this job. . . . I love being at Stanford because I get the brightest guys, I get the most competitive guys on and off the field. I still tell people I write more recommendations than any football coach in America for graduate school, for job opportunities. I’ve helped guys get to the point where they’re starting their own companies. That doesn’t happen on any other campus other than ours, so I love the energy. I love the passion. Not to mention we’re coming off a pretty darn good decade and ready to start the next decade on a high note also.”

Reinforces why me and many others on this board like him as a long-term coach.   And now, the debate over his ability to adapt and return the program to regular Pac12 championship contention can continue!

I would bet that some Ivy coaches write the same letters.

I'll fire first. I like him as a long-term coach IF he can adapt successfully. Jury's very much still out on that

He's heading into his 10th year as our head coach (with no departure date in sight). He's the Dean of P12 coaches now. He is already a "long-term" coach to me...independent of what adaptation we all want from him.

Well, depending on how you count Kyle Whittingham is either the Dean, or tied for the Dean, of P12 coaches.

However, otherwise your point is well taken. Shaw is currently tied for the most seasons as Stanford head football coach (9) with Ralston and Warner but has already coached the most games (120 vs 94 for Ralston vs 96 for Warner) (Winning percentage 72% Shaw, 60% Ralston, 78% Warner).
