Big Game - Predict the time? - Rando - 09-20-2011

I'm very interested in attending the Big Game as well as the UFC fights in San Jose that same night. What are the odds of the big game being played as a 10AM game or at latest 1PM? Last year was 2 PM. Not sure about 09.

I think I remember that Stanford (and C.al) used to be adamant that BG would be at 12:30 or 1, even if it precluded TV coverage. Don't know if that resolve still exists.

I believe with the new TV deal almost any game can be moved.  The exceptions would be those that have already been identified for TV slots.  So the 5PM games on Stanford's schedule (UW, USC & ND) are all locked down.

As I have tried to work through family scheduling conflicts for other games, I have attempted to map out TV options to predict the slots.  First you need to know the other conference options that weekend.

UofA at ASU
Colorado at UCLA
Washington at Oregon State
Utah at Washington State
USC at Oregon

What about that prime time slot of 5PM?  USC and Oregon have that slot already.  That will not change, so that eliminates that option.

Right away the options become 12:30 or FSN's various time slots.  FSN's schedule is confusing, but that is a different issue.

The Pac-8 teams do not have any games before 12:30PM Pacific, so if there was a dream on your end for a morning start that will not happen.  But that 12:30 slot is viable.  What would it take to start at 12:30?  Stanford would need to be top 15 or so, but more importantly C.a.l would need to have 5 wins.  If C.a.l. is a 4 win team, then ABC/ESPN will anticipate that the game will be a blowout and could opt for other options.  But the other games are all dogs. UofA at ASU is the only possible 12:30PM option.  Colorado and UCLA are both bad.  Washington will kill Oregon State.  Utah will destroy Wazzu and they both have small fan bases.

So look for the Big Game to start at 12:30.  I would not say it is certain, but it is pretty darn close.

Won't be 5 pm pacific since ABC has already selected USC vs. Oregon for that slot.

According to http://mattsarzsports.com/2011/week12.aspx (always a reliable source), Big Game could be on ABC, Versus or local (i.e., Comcast Bay Area).

I predict 12:30 on ABC or 4:30 on Versus. 2009 was on Versus at 4:30.
