the SEC on a football season this fall -

Quote:SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is not optimistic about the fate of the upcoming college football season, and he’s not sugar-coating his feelings.
Sankey, in an interview with ESPN Radio on Saturday morning, said his concern level about the season is “high to very high” and that “we are running out of time to correct and get things right.” Sankey also lamented the politicalization of proactive measures to stop the spread of COVID-19, including wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

You've got maybe 3-6 weeks to bend these curves...yeah I'd say we're running out of time. Maybe if the SEC had started a "Save College Football -- Wear a Mask" campaign two months ago, we'd be in a position to re-open everything come August :(

COVID19 is a pretty tough opponent, so I doubt that all would be OK if we had some PSAs by popular coaches.
However, those efforts would certainly have made our situation a bit better than it is today.
We don't really have 3-6 weeks to bend those curves BTW. The logistics for crafting a plan, any plan, will require at least 2-3 weeks. So we are between 0 and 2 weeks away. That path to games would need massive updates for gameday and travel logistics, testing protocols for the teams and their families, and a lot of behavior changes for American citizens.
That's way too much to expect in just a few weeks even if the USA was blessed with a science based strategy, consistent messaging and compelling PSAs from SEC celebs.
Bet on COVID to crush any plans, especially with the 15,000+ cases in Florida on Sunday (per worldometers.info)

Doc on Morning Edition explained that even with a vaccine people would still get sick and die like the regular flu. But we live with that every year so hoping for 2021. I think the wishful thinking is ridiculous. Buster Posey did the correct thing.

Sankey should immediately get all SEC coaches on social media and media in their states saying that our fans have to start wearing masks ALL of the time or our team will not be playing in the fall. Include 2 or 3 stars from the team as well.

Ah, what I meant was that drastic measures would be needed to enable just the games. Fans in stadiums? I wouldn't touch that. But teams playing games? We can watch games at home on TV. That's good enough.
Wear a mask, save college football.
