For those who are absolutely, positively 100% certain there will be no fall football, are we being punked by the article's author?

It's Wilner.  He punks for clicks, but not maliciously.

Well if no football then Stanford and schools drop more sports. Is that the game plan here ?

Wilner is simply reporting facts.

I think I’m going to haul the 50’s Tru Action game out of the closet and play a make believe all time NC. 1951 undefeated and untied and uninvited USF (Matson, St. Claire, Marchetti, Toler) vs 1924 Notre Dame (Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse). Each play takes about three minutes and there is little control of the electro magnetic game board. Will result in many safeties. I will add a home field advantage (Kezar) to make sure the Domers are crushed. It’s all the football I need this year.

Any PAC 12 schedule planning at this time is wasted time.

Most schools have significant budget issues and very few plans to address those issues.

USC, for example, in April projected this year had a $300-$500 million deficit, and very little of its ~$7 billion endowment could be used.

One can only guess that any new misses related to projected revenue would only add to the deficit and the need to cut sports, staff, academic departments, or more.

The football commissioners mention an assumption that cases hopefully will get better between now and mid-September.   Seems like a curious assumption, but that's the hope that appears to justify the optimism and planning.

The conferences' dedication to their contracts with Disney and ViacomCBS is rather impressive.   Hope it makes sense because it is only a matter of time until a college athlete, coach or trainer dies from COVID.

Not punked, he's just reporting on what the conference currently has planned, which as we've all learned in the past few months is very open to change as events on the ground unfold.

Which makes you wonder if you should take any of it particularly seriously.
