Tre Martin is looking to transfer. I wonder how many Pac-12/Big Ten players look to transfer to a school that will have football in the fall (if they do).

Has anyone successfully transferred from the Pac-12 or Big Ten to one of the other conferences that are playing? Do they become immediately eligible if they can pull this off? The obvious choice for someone like Tay Martin would be Miss. St., assuming he hasn't had enough of Coach Leach. But it strikes me as unlikely that a player could still transfer and play this season. Maybe he's just trying to set himself up for next season.

I’m guessing that if your school drops football , even for a year, you get to transfer without having to wait to play.

Yeah, I think that’s right in theory, but in practice it must be incredibly hard to pull off at this stage. And I haven’t seen news of it being done yet, although I haven’t been watching too closely.

how many scholarships in the ACC/SEC/Big12 can be made available at this point in time?
If you're a likely starter maybe they can make room for a player or two on each ACC/SEC/Big12 team, two per team would be a total of 76 spots, or about three players from each Pac12/Big10 team.

Skyler Thomas, a versatile defensive back who started 25 of 26 games the past two seasons at both safety positions and also nickel, announced on Twitter he was entering the transfer portal and plans to reopen his recruitment.

What happens if/when the other conferences shut down too? Do they get to transfer back for spring ball?

Seems like a win for the SEC and ACC. Transferring a second time might be a bridge too far, even if they are able to. Plus, I imagine many Pac-12 & BigTen teams wouldn't be interested in having them back.

Honestly, I'm pretty surprised we're not seeing more of these. Wazzu has a WR transferring to Ole Miss but I think that's about it.

Cal’s Luc Bequette (son of Debi Thomas, by the way) is transferring to Boston College. He will be eligible to play immediately because he is a grad transfer.

I think a lot of Pac-12 players understand they are unlikely to just move in mere days before the start of the season and play in the SEC. Maybe some would get to play on lower tier ACC or Big12 teams without team practice time, but not many.
They would be playing in venues without fans in most cases. They would be moving to a region loaded with COVID cases while not having friends, housing, relatives, etc.
What happens if the SEC/ACC/Big12 plays ~5 games before they have to cancel everything? Quite possible a transfer would play just enough to lose a year of eligibility while never starting. A player might move up the depth chart during the full season, but moving up will be very hard to do if the season is cut short.
If a player is so great that they could potentially start for top tier SEC teams without any practice, then they probably are better off staying with their current team, opting out of a Spring season (if it happens), and getting ready for the NFL combine.
My guess is we will see a number of 3rd and 4th year Pac-12 and BigTen players go directly to the NFL combine/draft in time, but there is no need to declare that path here in August.

What exactly are the transfer rules? Can any player enter the portal at anytime, or do they have to wait until they have been in their original school for 4years? It is beginning to look like the transfer bug is going to strike often.

All fall athletes are being granted an additional year of eligibility regardless as to whether they play this Fall, in the Spring or not at all.
