Ertz wants to stay but not sure feeling is mutual - JJJ - 09-10-2020

Quote:Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is frustrated over not being able to work out a long-term deal with the team. Ertz spoke about his contract Thursday, saying he wants to be with the Eagles going forward, but doesn’t know “if that feeling is mutual.”

Ertz, 29, is under contract with the team through the 2021 season. However, it’s possible Ertz could be a cap casualty following the 2020 season. The Eagles are expected to be at or over the salary cap in the offseason and can save some cap space by cutting Ertz.

The emergence of Dallas Goedert as Ertz's platoon-mate isn't helping either.  In Week 1, Goedert caught eight balls on nine targets for 101 yds and a TD.  He was also in on 79% of the Eagles' offensive snaps.

Unless you are an extraordinary talent, you have your day in the sun, then someone comes along who is usually younger and better than you are.  It is then time to move on and get yourself the best deal you can for what is left of your career.

Right.  Even Tom Brady is ending his career somewhere other than New England, just as Joe Montana ended his career somewhere other than San Francisco.
