Wow that's awesome! When's the last time we had back to back classes with a 5 star recruit in men's basketball?

Using 247Sports rankings, Stanford has only ever signed 4 5* recruits - Ziare Williams, Harrison Ingram and the Lopi.
Sure hope that Silva or O'Connell proves to be the missing link - an elite PG. We saw the impact with Tyrell Terry last season. Imagine someone with Terry's skills playing with guys like Williams or Ingram.

Now comes Haase's biggest recruiting challenge yet, getting Williams to stay a second year so he could play alongside Ingram.

I doubt that happens.

So, yes, it's hard to believe in this day and age that a guy like Williams who is a sure-fire first round and (I assume) a probable lottery pick, would return for his sophomore season. That said, I gotta think he's not already dead set on leaving after this season for one reason: he chose to come to Stanford. If, like most players of his standing, he had chosen to go to UofA or USC, then yes, the plan would seem to be to bolt as soon as possible. And, perhaps even drop out of school as soon as the season ends. The question is, why would one come to Stanford if one is planning (or strongly leaning) towards leave after one's freshman season? Maybe he just really connected with Haase? Maybe he likes palm trees? Scratch that...they have those at U$C.
That's not to say that I think he'll stick around for his second year. My guess is that he'll bolt. But, you gotta think he's open to the idea of sticking around. Thoughts????

Depends on how much he loves Stanford...and how high his draft stock is after his freshman year. Either way, I don't really think Stanford can lose -- if the team performs so well that his draft stock is good, then we should be happy for both him and the team.

Mainly I think it depends on Covid and the state of the campus. If ZW were to get a flavor for real campus life, social mixing and live classes included, I could see him getting the bug and sticking it out a few years on the Farm. Without that, I see no reason for him to stay after his first season, even if he is academically inclined.

Didn't Washington fail to make it to the NCAA tournament in 2017 despite not just having a first round draft pick, but the first overall pick in the draft (Markelle Fultz)?

Not only then, but they finished dead last in the Pac-12 last season with TWO one-and-dones.
We actually see that somewhat frequently. Collin Sexton at Alabama. Ben Simmons at LSU. Anthony Edwards at UGA. (Tyrell Terry at Stanford...)

It doesn't make a difference or change the point, but Casey and the Collins twins predate 247 rankings, I think. Casey was 1st team HS All-American and the Collins twins were obviously awesome.

Washington had a lot of issues last year. Obviously, they were without a true point guard (or at least their best one) for most of the year. (Not that I feel sorry for them!) And, their freshman wing, while having a lot of upside, seemed to my eyes to play with little heart, shot poorly, and generally made bad decisions on the floor. I'm sure there were other problems on that team, but those two jump out at me.

If a player were to enter the drafter after their freshman season and leave Stanford on good academic standing would they be able to come back after their playing career and finish their degree? If so, maybe this is a factor in choosing Stanford even knowing you're going to leave after one year.

Yes one can come back and many have. Casey J recently for instance. Bob Whitfield has a class with his son

I believe on Scout or Rivals, both Lopez Twins were 5 star recruits, but I don't think the classes before or after had a 5 star.
