How difficult is it to give a pain killing shot to the chest w/o puncturing a lung? Should the Charger’s doc be sued?

Known complication. Happened to the niners in 1999.

Assuming it was an intercostal nerve block, it's not hard to cause a pneumothorax.

Is the intercostal nerve block near the Intercostal Waterway?

Maybe the needle used for shot to ribs should be short enough to avoid going into the lung?

it's a risk of the procedure, not malpractice. you could maybe lower the risk with continuous imaging, but that carries risk, too; and it's hard to get that equipment in a stadium
fwiw, broken ribs can cut the pleura and cause pneumothorax even without needles in the area, especially when the broken edges are displaced.
not exactly safe to send someone
with a broken rib back out on the field to get banged around.

Wow, can't believe he played through most of a game like that (49 out of 59 snaps).
