More MLB trivia - Phogge - 09-25-2020

The Niekro brothers have the recorded for combined wins in MLB. The Aaron brothers for homeruns. What set of brothers holds the record for most brothers in MLB?

RE: More MLB trivia - BobK - 09-25-2020

Well Alou three, Boyers 3 IIRC
But I'l bet 4 or 5 will be the answer

RE: More MLB trivia - Mick - 09-25-2020

Delehantys.  Five of them.  Ed was the star.  Drunkenly jumped into Niagara falls (I think) and drowned.  Don't know the names of the other four.

RE: More MLB trivia - Phogge - 09-25-2020

Groucho, Zeppo, Harpo and Chico.

There are lots of two generation families in MLB (the Bonds, Griffeys, Alous, Alomars, Fielders, Guerreros, etc.) but there are only five three generation MLB families.  Who are they?

Not looking, so I'm going to guess on one: the Boones?

RE: More MLB trivia - BobK - 09-25-2020

Yes on the Boone’s. Ray in the 50s the dad granddad

RE: More MLB trivia - Phogge - 09-25-2020

I can only think of one: the Bells. Gus, Buddy and the grandson (name?).

RE: More MLB trivia - BobK - 09-25-2020

David Bell is the Cincy Manager. I had forgotten Buddy

RE: More MLB trivia - BostonCard - 09-25-2020

The Bells (Gus, Buddy, David, and Mike) and the Boones (Ray, Bob, Bret, and Aaron) are both correct.  In fact, the Boones may become the first four generation MLB family.  Bret Boone's son, Jake was expected to be chosen in the 2020 MLB Draft before it was condensed to five rounds and thus he returned to Princeton for his senior season.

Three left.

Did Carl Yastrzemski's son play MLB? I know his grandson Mike does. Or maybe Carl's dad or granddad played?

RE: More MLB trivia - Phogge - 09-25-2020

Racking the brain did Joe Coleman Jr. have a son who played? Is there a third Trout?

Yes, Joe Coleman Jr. had a son Casey who played from 2010 to 2014 for the Cubs and Royals.  He has a lifetime 8-13 record with a 5.72 ERA and 123 strikeouts.  The Colemans ((Joe, Joe Jr., and Casey), a the third three-generation family in MLB.

There is probably a third Trout, but not one in MLB.  Two left.

That was their sister, Rainbow.

RE: More MLB trivia - BostonCard - 09-25-2020

As I mentioned, there have been five three-generation MLB families.  There has also been one great-grandfather/great-grandson pair.  Who were they?

Looked it up. One is not your normal lineal relationship. Interesting, especially as the youngest's stepdad and uncle played in the majors. . . .

Looked it up as well.  Could be on the verge of two FOUR generation families.

In the grandfather/grandson relation there is a Stanford player. Played against him so mid Sixties.
