MBB: Payton Sandfort -
Papa John - 10-01-2020
I think that 2021 MBB recruit Payton Sandfort is supposed to announce today, October 1st. Maybe not getting a lot of run here on the CARDboard since all of the online predictions are for his homestate Iowa Hawkeyes? Or maybe there are other factors of which I am unaware...

He plays the same position as Harrison Ingram.

Ah, there's the rub! So who is still on the board for MBB? It seems like everyone is picking Mutombo to Georgetown or Tennessee.

Need depth to replace our one and dones

Agreed, BobK, but it looks like Sandfort is the only uncommitted prospect. Or maybe Stanford wants to be a modern blue blood, in which case we need one-and-dones to replace our one-and-dones.

Actually there’s Mutombo and Roberson from Bishop O’Dowd. Although I think Roberson iffy for several reasons
However keep in mind the spring signees we have had in the past few years.

Probably pointed out before, but if your last name spells Stanford, it's gotta be your top choice.
Even the first name has a little connection. Pony At Stanford?

Sandfort indeed committed to Iowa.
In his post-commitment interview, Harrison Ingram alluded to the class not being done, and specifically mentioned it would be a big man. It's probably full-court press on Mutombo, but beyond him I'm not sure who that could be/if there are other possible targets. We have offered another major big man named Franck Kepnang whom I haven't heard a peep about as far as Stanford's being in the running. Maybe an international prospect? We absolutely need a big man in the class so hopefully there's a plan if Mutombo doesn't work out.

We're not recruiting Kepnang anymore, that's been confirmed. No idea though where we turn if we do indeed miss on Mutombo. Jaylen Blakes is a combo guard from Blair Academy (same school as Michael O'Connell) who we are going after still.
