A new speculation record -

That's correct, Tim Kawakami is speculating about David Shaw's NFL coaching candidacy before he's completed his first year, beating his mentor's record by at least several months. Somewhere, Bob Bowlsby is thinking, "Wait, didn't I hire Shaw to AVOID this heartburn?" (Also a fascinating entry into the field of minimizing bias re: Stanford: nothing good that happens to Stanford football can be perfectly good; there has to be a way of minimizing it. Either it's just because of Toby Gerhart or Owen Marecic or Andrew Luck, or it's because of a coach, who will want to leave imminently. At any rate, at no point can one think, "Oh, you know Stanford might be pretty good..." This is why people think Stanford is composed of Andrew Luck and eighty-four charity cases we got from a local orphanage.)

Kawakami is a hack. He does have some good insights, but he also makes himself look foolish when speculating about Chip Kelly as a NFL head coach candidate, notwithstanding whatever he thinks about Shaw. At least Shaw has NFL experience and runs an NFL offense. But it is frankly ridiculous for him to suggest a guy that played for Stanford would think about leaving for the NFL.
I can't think of a single example of a head coach that played for his school, leaving for the NFL. Why not mention Mike Gundy, Kawakami, if you're going to mention Kelly and Shaw?Â

True, but happily a textbook cautionary tale.

......Spurrier was at UF for twelve years before he left for the NFL.
If Shaw stays at Stanford for that amount if time, replicating the kind of success Spurrier had, I won't be too heartbroken if he decides to go to the NFL.

How does it go: We shouldn't click on Wilner but it's OK to click on Kawakami? They're ALL pack of ninnies, don't click on any of them? Forget clicking, mail a box of angry bees to Wilner?
