It's a Larry Scott experiment to see if the P12 can compete head to head in tv ratings against other conferences (especially B10 and B12) that play at that time. I think we can expect Stanford to get at least one 9 am game this year.

Does 4:30 on ABC mean Fowler and Herbstreit calling the game? Usually that's the ESPN/ABC national game of the week slot...

Likely.
CBS, Fox, and NBC have cornered the top games that weekend, leaving ESPN/ABC with leftovers. Also, 6 SEC teams have a bye week.
