Need a non Stanford person who can call Shaw out.

Hey, if people want to see Shaw called out, all they have to do is read the Cardboard.

Todd called Shaw out repeatedly.  At times I thought he was perhaps overly critical of the playcalling.

I thoroughly enjoyed Husak's commentary.  I felt he did a good job explaining the offensive schemes.  He clearly has a deep understanding of the game.  I know he felt that Shaw should run many more crossing routes, and that Shaw needed to do a better job of breaking the playcalling patterns that allow defensive coordinators to predict our plays.  Husak was also willing to criticize the officiating when it was warranted.  He was a fair, critical, knowledgeable, independent voice.

I'm not outraged, but this counts as a loss to me.

Husak called Shaw out a lot.  I enjoyed his work.  But at times he and Reis were overly critical - to the point of being sarcastic.

Official silence on Husak will open the rumor floodgates. If it hasn't already. His analysis was consistently solid, informative and candid. As far as "sarcasm"? Depends on ear of the recipient. There's been a lot about Shaw's performance and the direction of the program worthy of critiques, as we all know. If he was under pressure to "get with the program", we'll find out about it sooner or later (and wouldn't surprise me at all).

Also possible he has other things on his mind.

Is Scott Reiss still play by play.  He also was often critical.  I do not say that as criticism of the broadcasting team. On the contrary, critical is good. As long as it’s not overboard.  If Reiss is also gone and the two of them are replaced by a couple of unabashed homers (or Reiss suddenly becomes uncritical) then your “get with the program” comment is prescient.  I hope, however, you are incorrect. Husak will be missed.  He was very good.  If he wanted to, I think he’s worthy of being an analyst at the national level.

Talented guy.

RE: Todd Husak - chrisk - 10-31-2020

I assume Reiss will be doing this season since he lost his gig at KTVU.

Stanford and its broadcast partners may be looking to reduce expenses.

RE: Todd Husak - Phogge - 10-31-2020

Hey fellas where in my post did I say that Husak didn't call him out? Read the English and try not to infer. Seriously Lex.

I inferred what I thought you implied.  Didn’t focus on the non-Stanford.....

RE: Todd Husak - chrisk - 10-31-2020

Herbstreit has indicated tonight that he and Fowler will be calling the Stanford opener at Oregon.

Big loss.  If this is a "he's too critical so he should go" directive, then the AD and the football program is even more chicken$hit than I thought.  Let's hope that's not the case.

Respectfully disagree. Shaw - and Reiss - regularly called out Shaw. I think it has a lot more credibility when Stanford guys call him out than non-Stanford guys.

Pure speculation, but if anything his not coming back may be more about the extent to which he did call out Shaw.

RE: Todd Husak - Phogge - 11-01-2020

Flop, my biggest concern re my Jesuit HS is that too many alumni teach there. Not enough, IMHO, for a broader view. The two announcers are homers regardless of any criticism of the coach. Husain’s was good but he’s gone so spilt milk. Find someone with stature who will work cheap because the listener ratings have never been great for Stanford. Maybe Lex, an outsider with passionate opinions who also worked the sidelines at Foster Field. LOL.

Well, at one time I was going to get into broadcasting.  Did some baseball and basketball play by play at Cal.  Was primed to go to Susanville for a radio job.  Changed gears went  a different direction.

I could do the Color. Here’s a sample:  “Third and one and they run against an 8 man front.  Again. WWTS?”  My listeners would already know that acronym - “What Would Teejers Say”. :).

The "eye test" is difficult on radio.

I truly doubt that was the case.  Looking at his job titles, he’s got bigger fish to fry.  Add this bizarre season and maybe he just felt this wasn’t a good year to do this.  Maybe he doesn’t want to travel expose himself to more Covid risk etc.

There simply is no reason to believe this came down from on high. If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, let’s here it.

RE: Todd Husak - fullmetal - 11-02-2020

Odd that there was no comment.  A simple "more time with family" would have been fair enough at face value in the middle of a pandemic.
