Depth chart should be out in the next two days. Not a lot of mysteries, but the things that I am most interested in seeing.

1) CB: who is our starter opposite Kelly? Bonner perhaps?
2) OG: Bragg is likely. Who is the other starter Miller or Hornibrook?
3) Injuries: We know Maddox is out. Who else? We heard Jordan Fox and DPW have been sidelined a bit. Are they ready? There haven't been many references to Gade Reid this camp. Is he out?
4) ILB: Robinson will start. Who is next to him? Miezan or JMF?
5) Backup QB: McKee or West or the transfer from Air Force?
6) TE: Fisk or Harrington?
7) Frosh: who is on the depth chart: Porter? Hinton? Humphreys? Smith? Phillips?

Yes, I am curious to see about injuries. And I am curious to to see who is the backup QB. But the rest of the depth chart really is not that important at this point. Every one of the players you mentioned will play if healthy. Stanford will probably rotate a lot of players in week 1 (maybe weeks 1 and 2), evaluate their performance, then decide who will get the majority of minutes.

I would be surprised to see anyone but West be the backup quarterback initially, given that the other two are new to the program. If he gets playing time and can't get it done then I would expect Shaw to go to someone else.

Agree with Spiny that we'll see more rotation than usual, but still want to put out my guesses for the fun of it.

1. Zahran Manley, with Bonner seeing plenty of time and maybe another CB rotating in (Toomer? Turner-Muhammad? True frosh Jones or Porter? Will Treyjohn Butler or Donjae Logan give us anything at all?)

2. Miller. Hornibrook gives us a solid 6th OL for Ogre packages, and Hinton gives us a 7th. Hinton has been called out as impressing, and I look forward to seeing him as our next stud bookend after Sarell moves on (in whatever capacity that may be - I think he projects as an OG in the NFL but needs more film...and of course he can come back next year).

3. I think Loa Kaufusi might be out, but am not sure. Frosh OL McLaughlin is (or at least was) out, and ditto frosh TE Ungar. Andres Fox and DWP are good to go. Gabe Reid is good to go.

4. Miezan, but JMF will see plenty of time. Sinclair obviously played 4 games last season, and Levani Damuni has received callouts for his physical play now that he's in post-mission football shape. We also had a couple players switch to ILB recently (new scholly Spencer Jorgensen and OLB Caleb Kelly), so the room is now fuller - but I don't expect those 2 to see time on defense. Jorgensen will be a STs asset throughout his time here.

5. I hope we never have to find this out, but FWIW my money is on West (for better or for worse). McKee sounds as good as advertised, but true freshmen don't play QB here...though maybe this season not counting for eligibility changes that. Sanders seems like more of a gimmick guy, but I do hope to see him get a Wildcat package or a reverse pass or something given his run-first skill set. Hell, maybe we put his familiar triple option in there for a play or two a game just to screw with opponents! (A man can dream...)

6. Doesn't matter. Both are known quantities at this point ("Y" TEs...solid blockers but not pass-catching threats) and will interchangeably see plenty of time on the field. The rising TE crop of Archer-Yurosek-Ungar will be better than these two in due time.

7. In terms of day 1 depth chart (2-deep):
- Hinton will be a backup OT
- Depending on the number of WR slots we list on the depth chart, 2 or 3, Humphreys might not be on the 2-deep at all (though he will play)...our room is just that deep
- Tobin Phillips might be listed as the backup DT, though in our system DE vs. DT doesn't mean a whole lot since we're often playing only 2 DL in a nickel look. Plus keep in mind most of the older players in the room ate mama's home cooking and bulked up a lot. I do hope he sees time to get his feet wet at the next level...we'll be relying on him and Pakola big time after 2021.
- Brandon Jones has every opportunity in the world to see early playing time, especially at backup CB or nickel. Ditto Porter.
- Josh Karty is our backup kicker by default :)
- Bailey Parsons is our starting LS by default :)


Way too early to predict, but another roster management question is, quite simply, who comes back? We have 10 5th year seniors (including our grad transfer Sanders) who can return for a 6th if they so choose, including some starters/key rotational pieces like Harrington, Robinson, J. Fox, Schaffer, Antoine, and Toner. These players will not count towards the 85 scholarship limit, and I don't think the NFL is in the cards for any of them unless they kick it into another gear this season. I believe they are all getting coterm degrees too, so it's not like grad transferring would get them a Masters that they wouldn't get here.

Remember we got a grad transfer at QB.  I'm not sure where Isiah Sanders will be vis a vis West and McKee, but I could see him coming in if West is not up to snuff (he wasn't last year and may never be) and McKee is not back in playing shape after his mission.

I believe McKee will be the back up. Shaw has said Sanders is situations which to me means like the wildcat.

Did I miss it somewhere or do we have an idea what the DL rotation will be? Also, who will be in on passing downs?

Poor West. He looked absolutely over-matched last season. A fifth-grade kid playing against eighth graders.
