5pm PST Longhorn network

I get all of the PAC-12 channels, all of the ESPN channels, but I don't get the Longhorn network. Who subscribes to the Longhorn network other than Texas fans? I expect Texas will win. I don't think Baylor is all that good this season. I expect Stanford would beat either of these teams even with Texas currently ranked #1 in the AVCA poll.
Most fans look at this as a rebuilding year because of the accomplishments of last year's team. Everyone seems to overlook Stanford's 2019 class was Volleyballmag.com unanimous #1 recruiting class in the country.

I get Longhorn network as part of Dish sports package; also ACC and SEC and some regional networks
An announcer for ACC volleyball finally mentioned that the current rankings may not be accurate because Pac12 and Big 10 weren't playing yet

I think there are some stacked teams in the Big10. I don't follow it closely, but I think Wisconsin brought back most of its team.

Yes, these announcers don't point out that some of the teams in the top 15 wouldn't be ranked at all if the PAC-12 and B1G were playing. Nonetheless I think it is good for the sport as teams in different parts of the country get publicity for being highly ranked that they otherwise wouldn't be getting.
Now, all I'm doing is praying the current Covid-19 wave subsides before the January PAC-12 start date.

The story when we beat Nebraska in the championship 2 years ago was that Nebraska overall had a very young team; if that was true they should be good this year.

For those who are interested, Texas lost two close sets to start, won a close third set, and then blew out the last two sets to win. The score in the fourth set was 19-5 in favor of Texas at one point, crazy (Baylor hit for -0.071). Baylor fought to 9-11 in the fifth set, but Texas scored four straight to close it out (three kills followed by a bad Baylor set).
Baylor's OH Yossiana Pressley, the 2019 AVCA Player of the Year, led all players with 29 kills, but Texas had edge in kills, service aces (8:1), and assists.

good -- they can trade losses!
But does the Big12 and the SEC and the ACC playing full conference schedules in the fall give them an advantage in the NCAA tournament? They are going to continue to play matches in the spring, aren't they? If so, they'll get twice as much competition as a team than we do. That hurts us more this year with the big turnover in the players from last year.

I'd agree it gives them an advantage. From what I could gather from announcers they resume practice in January, not sure that is right. Still neither time looks especially sharp
Also the announcers did mention that stanford may have something to say about National Championship

More games might equate to higher injury risk as well though.
Indeed as casually predicted, Baylor has flipped last night's script entirely so far, with Texas winning the first two sets, Baylor taking a long and tightly contested third set, and now solidly leading the fourth set at 15-9.
And Sidearm Sports (the live stats provider) just barfed all over itself (probably reset the game instance), so the stats are all offline. Great job y'all.
Edit: They're back. Baylor up on Texas in the fourth, 21-10. Wow.

Baylor did win the fourth set, but Texas came out swinging early in the fifth set to take a 9-3 lead. Holding Baylor at five points, Texas scored four in a row to get to 14-5 before trading points to win it 15-6.
Texas should get the #1 ranking after this weekend, but with Baylor's Pressley racking up 32 kills on 68 total attempts, the Bears ought to be ranked #1b next week. The next-highest TA for Baylor was 28...they really did feed Pressley both last night and tonight, and it almost worked.

Did Jhenna Gabriel beat out Ashley Shook for starting setter? I'm only one point into the match but Gabriel is starting and Shook is on the bench looking healthy.

Yes, from what I heard at the beginning of the season; Shook was healthy and got beat out for the starting position.
In fall 2021 Stanford might be facing a similar scenario. Xu or freshman Miner takes over at setter. I have no idea at this point how it will unfold. Really unfortunate two of the best setters in the country and one of them may be warming the bench.

That's good to hear. In all the matches I watched not one word was said about Stanford. It seems out of sight, out of mind. Understandable; it makes sense to focus on the teams that are playing.

I'm as hopeful as anyone, but to win a natty you need a couple of All-Americans who will come through in the clutch against the best teams. We very well may have that by the end of the regular season, but unlike the last three years, we don't know that before the season starts. (McClure was Honorable Mention, but that's all we got at the moment.)
