Not much of a WBB fan but... - OutsiderFan - 11-11-2020

It is quite shocking to me nobody started a thread about Stanford's WBB being pre-season #2 in the AP poll. How does something like this not get talked about here?

Honestly, I think a lot of us are waiting for the schedule to arrive to drum up excitement about the season. It should be any day now...given that the opener is in two weeks.

Gonzaga, South Dakota, South Carolina, and Oklahoma squaring off in Sioux Falls over Thanksgiving. I’d love to see that.

It’s hard to see a season being completed at this rate—and I’d hate to see Geno beat Tara to Pat’s all time win record by virtue of UConn playing more games sooner.

I am excited that we have the tools to compete for a national championship this year.  I am depressed that COVID may make it impossible to finish the season again, or that it could easily mess us up during our best opportunity in years.  With cases skyrocketing I am very skeptical that the season will finish.  And so it is a matter of psychological self-defense not to get as wrapped up in sports as I usually would.

All my expectations have been lowered this year, too. I’m even noticing that for the Sioux Falls Tourney, my thoughts, instead of landing on interest and anticipation, go to "Oh Boy, the #1 team in the country, SC, has to go into the mouth of a heavily Covid state. Will they regret it?" We have such a great team assembled, it should be a banner year; but then comes the thoughts that the year will be like walking on a tight rope over a pit of vipers.
I’m sure that it will change after the first couple of games as the teams fall into line, and we get excited about the abilities of our women!

It's important to keep in mind that going to play hoops in Sioux Falls isn't exactly walking a tightrope over a pit of vipers.  The players are all going to be all right - even the ones who contract Covid.  Now, us old fogie fans trying to watch those games . . . well, that's a different story.

Hoopsters are going to get Covid; games are going to be kicked/canceled; but if there's a will to play an NCAA championship tournament, there's a way to get it done.  MLB showed that.  Plus, who knows, maybe some effective treatments coming down the pike will be distributable in January.
