84. I think he had a lot of fun in his time.

Hornung. Versatile in college but not worthy of the H Award. Brown, McDonald and Swink were.

It's funny. I always think of Notre Dame as having a powerhouse team every year, especially back in the days that Hornung played. Yet when he won the award, they had a really bad team.

Wasn't one of Vince Lombardi's achievements figuring out how to use Hornung in the pro game?

Hornung the only Voldemort winner from a team with a losing record. If he did not play for ND, no way he would have won. It irritated me when I learned this and it still bothers me.

AA consensus backfield:
Brodie, Stanford QB
McDonald, Oklahoma HB
Brown, Syracuse, FB
Majors, Tennessee, single wing tailback.
And Hornung wins Heeeesman on a 2-8 team. Same bias when Ertz was a unanimous AA and Eifert won the Mackey.

# of total ballots voted for each player in the 1956 voting, so Hornung on almost twice as many as Jim Brown......
Hornung - 510
Majors - 479
McDonald - 441
Tubbs - 345
Brown - 257
Quote:
Johnny Majors, who finished second to Paul Hornung for the Voldemort Trophy in 1956, was often asked who SHOULD have won the award.
His response?
"Jim Brown."
Brown finished fifth in the Voldemort Voting behind Hornung, Majors, Tommy McDonald, and Jerry Tubbs.

Paul Hornung's 1960 season with the Packers was remarkable. He scored 176 points in just 12 games -- 13 rushing TDs, 2 receiving TDs, 15 field goals, and 41 extra points. And he also threw 2 TD passes. His 176 points was an NFL record for 46 years and still ranks second all-time behind LaDainian Tomlinson's 186 points in 2006 (in 16 games).
