OT: The Colts -

I feel bad that Andrew was on some bad Colts teams. I wonder how far he could have led them with the defense they have now.

Also, how much do the Niners regret trading Buckner away. I know he would have been expensive, but...
Quote:Though the Colts defense played well in the first two years under Eberflus, there’s been one big difference in 2020. Literally, a big difference: 6-foot-7, 295-pound defensive lineman DeForest Buckner.
Acquired in a surprise March trade after the San Francisco 49ers decided they couldn’t meet the young Pro Bowler’s asking price on an extension, Buckner has had a transformative impact on the Colts’ defense. His 16 quarterback hits tie him for sixth-most in the NFL, and just one behind Aaron Donald and Chris Jones for most by an interior defensive lineman. And as opposing offensive lines focus on Buckner, teammates like Denico Autry have had more room to operate; Autry has six sacks in nine games so far this year after notching just 3.5 in 14 games last season.
According to Football Outsiders’ Adjusted Line Yards stat, the Colts’ defensive line was the 15th-best against the run in 2019. This year? They’re seventh-best in that metric, and sixth-best when opponents are running up the middle — at Buckner.

A good defense would have been pretty nice. What would have really helped out Luck, though, is an O-line. The Colts constructed those teams as though they thought Luck could do it all by himself, and he got abused like an ornery puppy as a result.

Niners should have signed Buckner and traded Armstead. Has he made a tackle yet?

Very similar to what Jim Plunkett experience with the Patriots (I think they were the Boston Patriots back then) with FairBUTTHEAD running the oakie wishbone.............the league should have said no to protect both their assets and the player, the same for Luck. Some how Elway was able to survive, he was quick enough, but in today's game with the type of speed/quickness of the dline and backers not so sure how Elway would have fared.

Elway would thrive in today’s game. He was hit more than any QB in history at the time he retired. Today’s game is markedly easier for QBs.

The Niners will have no regrets trading Buckner for Kinlaw. He isn't quite as productive as Buckner was in his rookie season, but he has great upside as a more physical and bigger player. Kinlaw had his best game so far last week against the Saints, and everyone says he is going to be a dominant player as he gains experience. Buckner also costs about $8-$10M more per year depending on how you count. If the Niners season wasn't cruel enough already, both their # picks appear to be studs (along with Brandon Aiyuk), and are both now on the Covid list, with Kinlaw apparently actually having it.
As for Luck, if I'm John Lynch, I'm certainly going to call him as a Stanford grad and find out how his life is going and if he'd consider maybe possibly returning to the NFL. Luck's contract expires this season in terms of the Colts financial obligations, so I'm guessing he would be a Free Agent?
